Why NEXA Needs a Fresh Product Push
NEXA's contribution to Maruti Suzuki's domestic passenger vehicle volumes has declined over the past three years, even as the manufacturer's overall sales have expanded.
The reduction reflects several developments. NEXA has become heavily dependent on the Baleno, Fronx and Grand Vitara, while the discontinuation of the Ignis and Ciaz reduced the channel's model diversity.
Meanwhile, ARENA has benefited from strong demand for the Dzire and the newer Victoris SUV.
Baleno Facelift Provides the First Signs of Recovery

The refreshed Baleno has already provided a strong volume boost, reinforcing the importance of timely product upgrades.
The Baleno's performance offers an encouraging early indication that upgraded products can restore showroom traffic and strengthen NEXA's sales mix.
Five Priorities Behind NEXA's Product Strategy
1. Refresh established volume drivers. Updating the Fronx, XL6 and Grand Vitara would help Maruti defend its position in competitive segments without relying entirely on new nameplates.
2. Expand electric mobility. The e Vitara has already established NEXA as Maruti Suzuki's primary electric retail channel. A seven-seater electric SUV could extend that presence into larger family vehicles.
3. Introduce electrification below the midsize SUV category. The reported new electric or hybrid model positioned near the Fronx would potentially bring electrified technology to a broader customer base.
4. Strengthen premium positioning without abandoning affordability. Maruti's approach increasingly differentiates customers by preferences and aspirations rather than price alone. This helps explain why ARENA and NEXA can offer products in overlapping price brackets.
5. Expand NEXA's geographical reach. In February 2026, Maruti Suzuki announced its 200th NEXA Studio and a network of more than 740 NEXA outlets across over 530 cities. The company is targeting 600 Studio outlets by FY2030-31, reflecting a push to make premium retail accessible in smaller markets.

Auto Punditz Analysis
NEXA's recovery will depend on more than the number of launches. Maruti Suzuki must sustain the Baleno's refreshed momentum, successfully update the Fronx and Grand Vitara, and build meaningful demand for its expanding electric vehicle portfolio.
The seven-seater electric SUV could be especially important because it would introduce NEXA into a relatively underdeveloped segment. However, pricing, battery specifications, range and market timing will determine its commercial potential.
There is also the challenge of internal competition. With the Victoris performing strongly through ARENA, the updated Grand Vitara will need clearer differentiation to attract customers seeking a premium alternative.
The bigger picture: Maruti Suzuki appears to be moving towards a more diversified NEXA strategy, combining high-volume models, strong hybrids, premium family vehicles and dedicated EVs. Restoring NEXA's contribution towards the 30% mark would represent a meaningful improvement in Maruti's premium-channel performance.
