Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is India’s most fuel efficient BS6 CNG Car!

We compile the list of India’s Most Fuel Efficient Factory Fitted BS6 CNG Cars!

We had earlier presented India’s most fuel efficient BS6 Petrol & Diesel Cars – here. A lot of our readers suggested to analyse the fuel efficiency figures of CNG cars too and hence this report.

CNG or Compressed natural gas,is popularly available as additional fuel option in some Bi Fuel cars (Petrol+CNG), and is sold as factory fitted by OEM’s in few models. Few automakers have upgraded these cars to BS6 avatar also, and in upcoming time we will see more manufacturer & models to offer Bi Fuel option. With soaring Petrol prices, CNG have become an easy option to consumers to run their cars efficiently, and is very humble & pocket friendly. CNG is easily available in metropolitan cities like Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Kolkata — as well as other Tier 2 cities such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Bareilly & Agra.

We have primarily considered Factory Fitted CNG vehicles in this comparison. Factory Fitted CNG vehicles are safe, are equipped with Intelligent Injection system. They seamlessly communicate with each other to provide an optimum air-fuel ratio during combustion, thereby ensuring better and consistent performance along with high fuel efficiency, then market fitted kits. Besides this, Factory fitted CNG vehicles have re-tuned Suspension, are evaluated and tested for crash-worthiness and durability, have stainless steel pipes and joints, Integrated Harness, have micro switch, which assures that vehicle goes-off and does not start during CNG fuel filling process. Also they are equipped with Auto-changeover Switch, Hassle free warranty, integrated fuel level indicator on dashboard, and special NGV receptacle, a special nozzle that assists in faster and safer CNG refueling.

Advantages of CNG vehicles –

  1. CNG vehicles have lower maintenance costs than other hydrocarbon-fuel-powered vehicles, is clean fuel with 26% less Hydrocarbons then gasoline.

  2. CNG fuel systems are sealed, preventing fuel losses from spills or evaporation.

  3. Increased life of lubricating oils, as CNG does not contaminate and dilute the crankcase oil.

  4. Being a gaseous fuel, CNG mixes easily and evenly in air, have high auto ignition temperature of 540°C, vaporizes of in air, as it is lighter.

Besides above advantages, CNG vehicles require a greater amount of space for fuel storage, and took space in trunk, due to which boot space becomes very minimal, and frequent refueling is required regularly.

Currently we have 7 factory fitted BS6 CNG powered cars on sale in India, and beside these few OEM’s like Honda & Ford provides an option of CNG kit fitment in certain models, at Showroom prior delivery of new cars. Besides this few Maruti Tour range (Tour Hatchback, Sedan, MPV) are also there , augmented mainly for Taxi Segment with speed limiters.
