Maruti Suzuki’s Next Big Launch Could Be YMC Electric MPV – 7 Seats, e Vitara Tech & 500 Km+ Range Expected
Maruti Suzuki appears to be preparing its second major electric vehicle for the Indian market, and this time the company could move beyond the conventional five-seat SUV format.
An all-electric three-row MPV, internally referred to as YMC, has been spotted testing on Indian roads and is expected to become one of Maruti Suzuki’s most important upcoming launches. Reports suggest that the production-spec model could make its debut towards the end of 2026, with a market introduction potentially following in early 2027.
The upcoming model is particularly interesting because it could combine Maruti Suzuki’s long-established strength in the MPV market with the electric architecture and technology introduced through the e Vitara.
Maruti YMC Could Become Brand’s First Electric MPV
Maruti Suzuki already has a considerable presence in India’s people-mover market through products such as the Ertiga, XL6 and Invicto.
The YMC would take the company into an entirely different part of this segment by offering a three-row, battery-electric family vehicle.
Test vehicles photographed during development have revealed an upright body, long roofline and extended rear section that are more consistent with an MPV than a conventional midsize SUV.
It's also reported that the YMC will be Maruti Suzuki’s first electric MPV and is expected to share its basic underpinnings with the e Vitara.
Built Around e Vitara Electric Architecture
One of the most important aspects of the YMC is expected to be its relationship with the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
The e Vitara uses Suzuki’s dedicated HEARTECT-e electric vehicle architecture, and reports indicate that the YMC will utilise the same basic EV platform while adopting a longer, more family-oriented body.
Sharing an architecture across multiple vehicles could allow Maruti Suzuki to benefit from common battery packs, electric motors, electronic systems and other major components.
This could become particularly important as the manufacturer attempts to improve localisation and achieve greater economies of scale in its EV operations.
Two Battery Packs Likely
The upcoming electric MPV is expected to borrow its powertrain options from the e Vitara.

These battery capacities are confirmed for the e Vitara by Maruti Suzuki, although the company has not officially confirmed them for the YMC.

Reports surrounding the YMC currently suggest approximately 400-415 km of range for a smaller-battery version and roughly 500-515 km for the larger-battery model.
These YMC figures should, however, be treated as preliminary estimates until Maruti Suzuki releases official specifications.
Front-Wheel Drive Expected
The India-focused YMC is also expected to use a single-motor, front-wheel-drive configuration.
Media reports have suggested outputs broadly similar to the e Vitara's front-drive configurations, with approximately 142 hp for the smaller battery version and about 172 hp for the larger battery model. Both have been reported with around 193 Nm of torque.
Final output figures could nevertheless differ once the production model is announced.
SUV-Inspired Styling for the Electric MPV
Spy images suggest that Maruti Suzuki will avoid making the YMC look like a traditional van-shaped MPV.
Instead, expect a relatively upright and muscular front design, pronounced wheel arches and SUV-inspired styling elements.
Some details appear to resemble the e Vitara, including the general bonnet profile, aerodynamic alloy wheels and elements around the front section.
The vehicle is expected to measure close to 4.5 metres in length, although official dimensions have not yet been disclosed.
At the rear, vertically oriented or L-shaped lighting could give the model some visual connection with Maruti Suzuki's existing MPVs.
6- and 7-Seater Versions Possible
Packaging should be one of the YMC's major strengths.
Reports suggest Maruti Suzuki could offer both:
7-seat configuration with a conventional second-row bench
6-seat configuration with individual captain seats
A dedicated EV platform should also allow Maruti Suzuki to use the available wheelbase and cabin floor more efficiently than would typically be possible in an EV converted from an internal-combustion platform.
This could make third-row packaging one of the vehicle's most important differentiators.
Cabin Could Borrow Heavily From e Vitara
The YMC's interior is expected to share several components with the e Vitara.
Potential equipment includes a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, ventilated front seats and electrically adjustable driver's seat.
The existing e Vitara already demonstrates the type of technology Maruti Suzuki could transfer to the YMC. It offers a digital cockpit, power-adjustable driver's seat, connected-car features and several premium convenience features.
A panoramic sunroof has also been mentioned in reports surrounding the YMC, although its availability remains unconfirmed.
Safety and ADAS Could Be Major Focus Areas
Higher variants of the electric MPV are also likely to receive a substantial safety package.
The e Vitara currently offers seven airbags and Level 2 ADAS, providing a useful indication of what could eventually appear on the YMC.
Expected driver-assistance systems could include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure prevention and rear cross-traffic alert, along with a 360-degree camera.
Once again, these remain expected features rather than confirmed YMC specifications.
Kia Carens Clavis EV Could Be the Key Rival
One of the clearest competitors for the upcoming Maruti electric MPV will be the Kia Carens Clavis EV.
Both vehicles target customers seeking greater cabin flexibility and three-row practicality without returning to an internal-combustion powertrain.
The YMC could also appeal to buyers considering larger electric SUVs where usable cabin space matters more than traditional SUV styling.
Maruti's existing strength in the MPV category could make the model particularly significant. Rather than introducing another five-seat electric crossover into an increasingly crowded segment, the company could use the YMC to target the relatively underdeveloped electric family-MPV market.
Pricing Could Determine Its Impact
Maruti Suzuki has not announced prices or even formally unveiled the vehicle.
Current media estimates vary considerably. Autocar India has previously suggested positioning in the region of ₹20 lakh-₹25 lakh, whereas other reports have projected a lower entry point.
Until specifications, battery ownership models and variants are disclosed, any price estimate should therefore be regarded as tentative.
Maruti Suzuki's approach with the e Vitara may offer another clue. The company launched the e Vitara in February 2026 with a Battery-as-a-Service option beginning at ₹10.99 lakh plus battery EMI of ₹3.99/km, alongside conventional battery-inclusive ownership options.
Whether a similar BaaS strategy will be extended to the YMC remains unknown.

The YMC could be more strategically significant for Maruti Suzuki than simply being its second electric car.
Maruti already has a strong customer base in practical three-row vehicles through the Ertiga and XL6, while the dedicated HEARTECT-e platform gives it an opportunity to apply that experience to a purpose-built EV.
The company's EV infrastructure is also expanding around the e Vitara. Maruti says the electric SUV is backed by more than 1,500 EV-ready service centres and its broader ‘e for me’ charging ecosystem.
If the YMC combines competitive pricing, genuine third-row usability and a real-world range approaching the larger-battery e Vitara, it could broaden the Indian electric-car market beyond the five-seat SUV segment.
For now, however, several important details — including the final name, battery specifications, range, equipment, variants, pricing and exact launch date — remain unofficial.
A production-model debut towards the end of 2026, followed by a possible early-2027 launch, currently appears to be the most consistent timeline across recent reports.
