Mercedes-Benz is possibly working on the all-electric G-Class!

The latest patent filing by Mercedes Benz suggests it is working on an Electric G-Class. This is gathered from its patent application made with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) on 01 April 2021.

The Auto major has filed patents under the names “EQG 580” and “EQG 560”. The names suggest a commonality and possibly the same powertrain configurations with the forthcoming EQS. No other information is available, as yet.

The EQG 580 could be featuring electric motors at both the front and rear for providing a four-wheel drive and also a torque shift function. These will continuously distribute power between the front and rear axles. The power delivered could be in the range of 516 hp and torque 828 Nm – as the EQS.

Mercedes-Benz could also ensure that like its ICE version G-Class, the all Electric Version too will include three-locking differentials. However, will the electric G-Class have a modified ladder frame chassis – as is there in the current G-Class, or it will transition to the company’s new EVA architecture, this not clear yet?

The new All-Electric G-Class will be a worthy rival to the flagship variants of the GMC Hummer EV SUV. It could also be more capable than the current ICE-powered G-Class as well.
