India’s mid-size SUV segment witnessed intense competition during the first half of calendar year 2026, with established nameplates facing growing pressure from a wave of newer models.
The Hyundai Creta retained its position as the highest-selling mid-size SUV during the January–June 2026 period. However, its sharp decline in June allowed the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Kia Seltos, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara to move ahead in the monthly rankings.
Across the eight models considered in this analysis, cumulative dispatches stood at 3,89,104 units during H1 CY2026.

The Hyundai Creta continued to dominate the mid-size SUV category with cumulative sales of 91,391 units during the first six months of 2026. It averaged 15,232 units per month and accounted for approximately 23.5 percent of the combined sales of the eight models analysed. Despite the slowdown, the Creta ended H1 CY2026 with a lead of 17,479 units over the second-placed Maruti Suzuki Victoris.
Maruti Suzuki Victoris recorded cumulative sales of 73,912 units during H1 2026, securing second place in the segment. With average monthly dispatches of 12,319 units, the Victoris has quickly established itself as one of the most important products in Maruti Suzuki’s SUV portfolio. Its strongest performance came in January'26, when sales stood at 15,240 units. Although monthly volumes moderated through the latter part of the half-year, the Victoris remained above the 10,000-unit mark in every month.
Kia Seltos secured third position with cumulative sales of 62,805 units and a monthly average of 10,468 units. Unlike several competitors that experienced noticeable fluctuations, the Seltos maintained an extremely narrow sales range throughout the six-month period.
Toyota Hyryder registered cumulative sales of 55,604 units during H1 2026, translating to an average of 9,267 units per month. The Hyryder remained close to the 9,000-unit mark during most months and crossed 10,000 units in March, when it recorded 10,206 units.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara recorded H1 sales of 45,811 units, with an average of 7,635 units per month. Together, the Victoris and Grand Vitara contributed 1,19,723 units during H1 CY2026, underlining Maruti Suzuki’s growing influence in the mid-size SUV category.
Tata Sierra accumulated sales of 43,420 units during the first six months of 2026, averaging 7,237 units per month. Sierra’s sales have moderated since March, falling for three consecutive months.
Honda Elevate finished seventh with cumulative sales of 10,122 units and an average of 1,687 units per month. Its performance was inconsistent during the half-year. Sales peaked at 2,467 units in March before falling to 1,036 units in April.
Renault Duster recorded cumulative dispatches of 6,039 units between March and June 2026. Its strongest month was April, when sales reached 2,359 units. Dispatches subsequently declined to 1,267 units in May and 1,011 units in June. The model’s initial performance indicates that the revived Duster has generated interest, but volumes remain considerably below those of the Creta, Seltos, Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki’s two offerings.

Key Takeaways
The H1 CY2026 numbers highlight a rapidly evolving mid-size SUV market.
The Hyundai Creta remains the undisputed half-year leader, supported by five months of exceptionally strong sales. However, its June slowdown allowed competitors to demonstrate how closely contested the segment has become.
The Maruti Suzuki Victoris has emerged as the strongest challenger and was the segment leader in June. The Kia Seltos continues to benefit from highly consistent monthly volumes, while the Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Grand Vitara are now regularly operating near the 9,000-unit level.
The Tata Sierra has also made an impressive entry by securing more than 43,000 units during H1, although its recent downward trend will need to be monitored. At the lower end, the Honda Elevate showed a notable recovery in June, while the Renault Duster is still building scale following its return to the Indian market. With multiple models now capable of recording between 9,000 and 10,000 units a month, the battle for leadership behind the Creta is likely to become even more intense during the second half of 2026.
