New 9-metre electric bus targets city transport, employee mobility and school applications; company also showcases upgraded EiV12 Intercity and launches #SwitchKaro campaign
SWITCH Mobility has unveiled the all-new SWITCH EiV9 electric bus at Prawaas 5.0 in Gandhinagar. The new 9-metre electric bus has been developed for urban and institutional mobility applications, including city transit, employee transportation and school bus operations.
Part of the Hinduja Group, SWITCH Mobility says the EiV9 has been engineered to offer an effective balance of operational efficiency, passenger comfort, safety and lower total cost of ownership. The company is positioning the model as a practical fleet-modernisation solution for operators looking to transition from conventional buses to electric mobility.

SWITCH EiV9 Targets High-Growth 9-Metre Electric Bus Segment
According to SWITCH Mobility, the 9-metre electric bus category is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of nearly 34% by FY2030. The company expects demand to be supported by expanding city transport requirements and the electrification of institutional mobility fleets.
Ganesh Mani, CEO of SWITCH Mobility, said the EiV9 represents an important step in
strengthening the company’s presence across public and institutional transport segments. He added that the bus has been developed around key operator priorities such as efficiency, comfort, safety and lower operating costs.
The EiV9 is based on a next-generation electric bus platform and uses a lightweight
architecture to improve energy utilisation. Operators will be able to select from multiple battery-pack configurations depending on route length, operating conditions and duty-cycle requirements.
213kW Electric Motor and Dual-Gun Fast Charging
The SWITCH EiV9 is powered by a Permanent Magnet Variable Reluctance motor producing up to 213kW of peak power. The powertrain is designed to provide smooth acceleration and dependable performance across different operating environments.
Its electric architecture also includes regenerative braking, which can recover energy during deceleration and help improve overall operating efficiency.
The bus supports dual-gun CCS2 fast charging, allowing operators to reduce charging turnaround time and improve daily vehicle utilisation. This feature could be particularly useful for city and employee transport fleets operating on tightly scheduled routes.

Focus on Passenger Comfort
Passenger experience has been given significant attention in the EiV9. The bus features a spacious cabin, ergonomic seating layouts and full air suspension on both the front and rear axles. Individual USB charging points have also been incorporated for passenger convenience.
For employee transportation applications, SWITCH Mobility will offer pushback seating options, making the bus better suited to longer journeys.
The combination of air suspension and flexible seating configurations should allow operators to tailor the EiV9 for different use cases rather than limiting it to conventional urban bus duties.
Safety Features of the SWITCH EiV9
Safety equipment on the EiV9 includes a Fire Detection and Suppression System, along with disc brakes on both axles.
SWITCH Mobility says the bus uses a robust electrical architecture designed to support dependable operation across varying climatic, road and traffic conditions. The company is therefore targeting not just public transport operators but also private fleets where vehicle reliability and passenger safety are critical procurement considerations.
#SwitchKaro Campaign Introduced
Alongside the EiV9, SWITCH Mobility unveiled a new campaign called #SwitchKaro.
The campaign is intended to encourage businesses, transport operators and fleet owners to move towards cleaner mobility solutions. SWITCH Mobility is presenting electric buses as a business proposition based not only on lower emissions, but also on reduced maintenance requirements, improved operating economics and higher long-term fleet profitability.
This reflects a broader shift in the commercial EV market, where manufacturers are increasingly focusing on lifecycle costs and vehicle uptime rather than relying solely on environmental benefits to drive adoption.
Enhanced EiV12 Intercity Also Showcased
SWITCH Mobility also displayed an enhanced version of its EiV12 Intercity electric bus at Prawaas 5.0.
The long-distance electric bus features premium reclining seats and dedicated multi-port charging provisions for each seat. It uses floor-mounted lithium iron phosphate battery packs, helping lower the centre of gravity and improve vehicle stability.
The EiV12 Intercity also gets front and rear air suspension and dual-gun DC fast charging to support quicker turnaround between intercity journeys.
Driver and safety equipment includes:
A pneumatic suspension driver seat
Camera-based digital outside rear-view mirrors
Fire Detection and Suppression System
SWITCH iON connected-vehicle technology
The SWITCH iON platform provides real-time diagnostics, remote monitoring and digital battery-management capabilities. These functions are intended to help fleet operators improve uptime, monitor battery performance and identify maintenance requirements remotely.
SWITCH Mobility’s Growing Electric Fleet
SWITCH Mobility says it has deployed more than 2,400 electric buses, which have collectively covered over 150 million kilometres globally.
The company has also placed more than 2,500 SWITCH IeV electric light commercial vehicles on the road, supported by demand from urban delivery and last-mile logistics operators.
The EiV9 therefore joins an expanding portfolio that covers both passenger mobility and commercial goods movement.
Auto Punditz Take
The EiV9 enters an increasingly important segment of India’s electric bus market. While 12-metre electric buses remain central to large city-transport tenders, 9-metre models offer greater flexibility for staff transport, schools, feeder services and routes with lower passenger volumes.
The inclusion of multiple battery options, dual-gun charging, air suspension and institutional-transport seating configurations suggests that SWITCH Mobility is targeting a wide customer base rather than a single public-transport application.
However, the commercial success of the EiV9 will ultimately depend on its battery capacity, certified range, passenger capacity, pricing, warranty terms and real-world energy consumption. These details were not disclosed in the press release and are expected to become clearer closer to commercial deployment.
For fleet operators, the strongest proposition could be the combination of lower running costs, fast charging and the ability to configure the bus according to specific route requirements.
