Tata Motors Opens Re.Wi.Re Vehicle Scrapping Facility in Patna With 15,000-Unit Annual Capacity

Tata Motors has expanded its organised vehicle-scrapping network with the inauguration of a new Re.Wi.Re facility in Patna, Bihar. The registered vehicle scrapping facility can dismantle up to 15,000 end-of-life vehicles annually and is designed to process vehicles across brands and segments.

The facility was inaugurated on August 4, 2026, by Bihar Transport Minister Damodar Rawat. Spread across 5.5 acres, the Patna centre is operated by the Kalahanu Bothra Group.

Scrappage Facility Covers Cars, Commercial Vehicles and Two-Wheelers

The Patna Re.Wi.Re facility is equipped to dismantle passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers. Importantly, the centre is not restricted to Tata vehicles and will accept eligible end-of-life vehicles from different manufacturers.

The facility uses separate dismantling processes depending on the type of vehicle. Commercial vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers are processed through cell-type dismantling stations, while passenger vehicles are handled through a line-type dismantling system.

Dedicated stations have also been created for the safe removal and disposal of:

• Batteries

• Tyres

• Fuel

• Engine and transmission oils

• Other liquids

• Refrigerant gases

This controlled process is intended to reduce unsafe dismantling practices while ensuring that recyclable materials and potentially hazardous components are handled responsibly.

Fully Digital and Paperless Operations

According to Tata Motors, the Re.Wi.Re facility operates through a fully digitalised and paperless system. Each vehicle undergoes documentation, verification and dismantling in accordance with the requirements applicable to registered vehicle scrapping facilities.

The structured process is expected to improve transparency for vehicle owners while maintaining a formal record of scrapped vehicles and their components.

Supports Bihar’s Vehicle-Fleet Modernisation

The opening of the Patna facility comes as central and state authorities continue to encourage the removal of old, unfit and polluting vehicles from Indian roads.

Bihar Transport Minister Damodar Rawat said the facility would support the state’s efforts to create a cleaner transport ecosystem and improve road safety. He added that the organised scrapping of older vehicles could encourage owners to shift towards newer, safer and more fuel-efficient models.

The development is also aligned with the broader objectives of the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy, which aims to create an organised system for identifying and retiring vehicles that are no longer considered roadworthy.

Tata Motors Expands Re.Wi.Re Network to 12 Centres

With the addition of Patna, Tata Motors now operates 12 vehicle-scrapping centres across India. Its Re.Wi.Re network currently includes facilities in:

Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, Pune, Guwahati, Raipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Patna.

Tata Motors stated that its scrapping network can collectively dismantle close to two lakh end-of-life vehicles annually.

Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks at Tata Motors, said the Patna centre represents another step towards building an organised national ecosystem for end-of-life vehicles. He also highlighted the role of vehicle scrapping in supporting cleaner mobility and circular-economy practices.

India has traditionally had a largely fragmented vehicle-dismantling sector. Modern registered facilities can help improve the recovery and reuse of materials such as steel, aluminium, plastics and rubber while reducing the environmental risks associated with informal scrapping.

Proper removal of fuel, oil, batteries and gases is particularly important because these components can cause soil, air and water contamination when handled without suitable equipment.
