Tata Motors has firmly established itself as India’s electric passenger vehicle leader with a portfolio comprising the Tiago EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, Curvv EV, Harrier EV and the recently introduced Sierra EV. However, the company’s EV journey is only gathering momentum.
The next phase of Tata’s electric offensive is expected to move beyond mass-market offerings and into the premium, family-oriented and technology-driven segments. Three all-new electric vehicles are believed to be under development, each targeting a different set of customers while expanding Tata’s footprint across India’s rapidly evolving EV market.
1. Tata Avinya – The Brand’s Technology Flagship
The Tata Avinya is arguably the company’s most ambitious electric vehicle project to date. Rather than being just another SUV, the Avinya is expected to introduce a completely new premium EV identity under Tata’s dedicated Avinya sub-brand.
Expected highlights include:
Premium crossover with futuristic styling
Locally adapted JLR-derived EMA architecture
Next-generation connected technologies
Spacious lounge-inspired cabin
Advanced ADAS and premium comfort features
Longer driving range than current Tata EVs
The production model is expected to remain largely faithful to the striking concept showcased earlier, with flush door handles, minimalist design language and a highly digital cabin experience.
The Avinya will also showcase Tata’s latest battery and software technologies, positioning it against premium electric SUVs from global manufacturers rather than traditional mass-market rivals. Reports indicate that it could arrive around 2027.
2. Tata Safari EV – Bringing Electrification to a Popular Family SUV
Following the successful launch of the Harrier EV, Tata is widely expected to introduce an all-electric Safari.
The Safari EV is likely to retain the familiar three-row SUV silhouette while borrowing heavily from the Harrier EV’s electric architecture. This means buyers can expect:
Dual-motor AWD option (expected)
Shared battery technology with Harrier EV
Larger battery pack for extended range
Premium connected cabin
Advanced terrain modes
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging capabilities, if carried over from the Harrier EV platform
Since the Safari remains one of Tata’s flagship SUVs, electrifying it would allow the company to address the growing demand for large, family-friendly electric SUVs in India.
Industry reports suggest the Safari EV could make its debut within the next 12–18 months.
3. Tata’s New Electric MPV – A Family-Focused EV
Alongside premium SUVs, Tata is also believed to be developing a dedicated electric MPV aimed at families.
While official details remain limited, expectations include:
Spacious three-row cabin
Flexible seating layouts
Flat-floor EV architecture
Large battery pack
Premium infotainment
Connected mobility ecosystem
The model could fill an important gap in India’s electric market, where very few premium MPVs currently exist.
By combining practicality with zero-emission mobility, Tata could appeal to urban families seeking an alternative to conventional diesel MPVs while strengthening its presence across multiple EV segments.

Tata’s EV Strategy Is Clearly Moving Upmarket
With the Sierra EV already expanding Tata’s portfolio, these three upcoming products signal a broader shift towards premium electric mobility.
Rather than focusing solely on affordable EVs, Tata now appears keen to compete in higher-value segments where technology, range, performance and cabin experience become equally important purchasing factors.
The combination of the Avinya flagship, Safari EV and a family-focused electric MPV would significantly strengthen Tata’s position against emerging rivals such as Mahindra, Hyundai, BYD and future global EV entrants.
As India’s EV ecosystem matures and charging infrastructure continues to improve, Tata’s next-generation electric lineup could play a crucial role in maintaining its leadership in the country’s rapidly growing electric passenger vehicle market.
