Toyota India Sales October 2026: Domestic Sales Fall 27% YoY to 29,521 Units, Exports Plunge 68%
Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported total sales of 30,360 units in October 2026, registering a 29.2% year-on-year decline. Despite the annual contraction, domestic sales recovered nearly 18% month-on-month, while cumulative January–October volumes remained positive.
Toyota October 2026 Sales Overview
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) registered domestic sales of 29,521 units in October 2026, compared with 40,257 units in the corresponding month last year. This represents a significant 26.7% year-on-year decline, translating into a volume reduction of 10,736 vehicles.
Including exports of 839 units, Toyota's overall monthly sales reached 30,360 units, down 29.2% from 42,892 units in October 2025.
However, the monthly performance presents a contrasting picture. Domestic dispatches increased by 18% compared with September 2026, indicating a recovery in wholesale volumes despite the weaker annual comparison. The steep decline in overseas shipments, however, restricted the improvement in Toyota's combined sales.
Toyota Sales Comparison – October 2026 vs October 2025
Category | Oct 2026 | Oct 2025 | YoY |
Domestic | 29,521 | 40,257 | −26.7% |
Exports | 839 | 2,635 | −68.2% |
Total | 30,360 | 42,892 | −29.2% |
Toyota's domestic business accounted for 97.2% of total volumes in October 2026, while exports contributed just 2.8%.
The domestic sales decline of 10,736 units was responsible for approximately 86% of the company's total year-on-year volume reduction. The remaining decline came from exports.
This indicates that weaker domestic wholesale dispatches, rather than exports alone, were the primary contributor to Toyota's overall annual contraction.
Domestic Sales Recover 18% Month-on-Month
While Toyota's year-on-year performance remained under pressure, its sequential sales improved significantly.
Category | Oct 2026 | Sep 2026 | MoM |
Domestic | 29,521 | 25,027 | +18.0% |
Exports | 839 | 3,191 | −73.7% |
Total | 30,360 | 28,218 | +7.6% |
Domestic volumes increased by 4,494 units compared with September. However, exports declined by 2,352 units over the same period.
As a result, Toyota's total monthly sales increased by only 2,142 units, despite a much stronger improvement in domestic dispatches.
The sequential recovery suggests improved dealer dispatch activity during October, although wholesale figures alone cannot establish the extent of actual retail demand.
Toyota Exports Decline 68% YoY
Toyota's export performance emerged as another major concern during October 2026.
Overseas shipments declined to just 839 units from 2,635 units in October 2025, representing a 68.2% contraction.
The decline was even sharper on a month-on-month basis, with exports falling 73.7% from September's 3,191 units.
Such a significant reduction highlights volatility in Toyota's export dispatches. However, without destination-wise shipment data or production schedules, it would be premature to attribute the decline to weakening international demand.
Export allocation, shipment timing and production planning could also influence monthly volumes.
Toyota January–October 2026 Sales: Growth Slows to 3%
Despite the sharp October decline, Toyota's cumulative sales remained ahead of the previous year.
During January–October 2026, Toyota registered total sales of 3,25,274 units, compared with 3,15,716 units during the same period in 2025.
Category | Jan–Oct 2026 | Jan–Oct 2025 | Growth |
Domestic | 2,99,140 | 2,87,338 | +4.1% |
Exports | 26,134 | 28,378 | −7.9% |
Total | 3,25,274 | 3,15,716 | +3.0% |
Toyota added 9,558 units to its cumulative sales during the first ten months of 2026.
Domestic sales increased by 11,802 units, which more than compensated for the reduction of 2,244 units in exports.
However, cumulative growth has moderated considerably. Toyota's January–September 2026 sales had grown 8.1% year-on-year, while the January–October growth rate stands at just 3.0%.
This highlights the impact of October's unusually weak year-on-year performance on the company's annual growth trajectory.
Toyota Slips Behind Kia in Domestic Sales Rankings
October 2026 also witnessed an interesting shift in India's passenger vehicle manufacturer rankings.
Toyota's domestic sales of 29,521 units placed it behind Kia India, which reported 33,462 units during the month.
The difference between the two manufacturers stood at 3,941 units, with Kia maintaining its lead over Toyota for the second consecutive month. This development is particularly noteworthy because several leading passenger vehicle manufacturers recorded strong October sales, while Toyota's annual volumes contracted sharply.
However, one month's ranking should not be interpreted as a permanent shift in market competitiveness. Toyota continues to operate with a differentiated portfolio focused on SUVs, MPVs and hybrid vehicles.
New Toyota Glanza Receives Positive Initial Response
Toyota has highlighted encouraging customer interest in the recently introduced updated Glanza. The refreshed hatchback strengthens Toyota's presence in the premium hatchback segment, where it competes with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz.
The company has indicated a positive initial response to the model's updated styling, features and overall value proposition. However, Toyota has not disclosed individual booking or sales figures for the updated Glanza. Therefore, its contribution to October's overall performance cannot yet be quantified.
Toyota's broader Indian portfolio also includes the Innova Hycross, Innova Crysta, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Fortuner, Rumion, Taisor, Hilux and Camry, among other models. The Innova and Hyryder remain strategically important nameplates for Toyota's MPV and hybrid positioning, although model-wise October dispatch data would be required to establish which vehicles contributed most to the sales decline.
What Explains Toyota's October Sales Decline?
Several factors deserve consideration when analysing Toyota's October performance.
1. High comparison base: October 2025 was an exceptionally strong month for Toyota, with total sales of 42,892 units. This elevated base amplified the annual decline in October 2026.
2. Divergence between domestic and export trends: Domestic dispatches recovered sequentially, but the sharp fall in exports restricted overall monthly growth.
3. Competitive intensity: Toyota faces increasing competition across the SUV, MPV and premium hatchback segments. However, the available data does not establish whether competitive pressure directly caused October's decline.
4. Wholesale versus retail dynamics: Manufacturer dispatches are influenced by inventory management, production schedules and dealer requirements. October's wholesale contraction does not necessarily imply an equivalent decline in consumer purchases.
A more definitive assessment would require model-wise dispatches, dealer inventory data and retail registration trends.

Auto Punditz Take
Toyota's October 2026 sales performance reflects a challenging month for the Japanese automaker in India. The 26.7% decline in domestic dispatches is particularly significant at a time when several competitors are reporting record monthly volumes. The sharp export contraction further compounded the overall weakness.
Nevertheless, the nearly 18% sequential improvement in domestic sales provides some reassurance. Toyota's cumulative January–October volumes also remain positive, indicating that the company has not lost all the growth achieved earlier in the year.
The more important concern is the moderation in cumulative growth from 8.1% through September to just 3.0% through October.
Going forward, Toyota's performance will depend on sustained demand for its Innova and Fortuner families, the competitiveness of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the contribution of the refreshed Glanza and the company's ability to stabilise exports.
For Toyota, the key challenge is no longer simply recovering monthly volumes, but restoring consistent year-on-year growth in an increasingly competitive Indian passenger vehicle market.
