India’s tractor retail market continued its positive momentum in May 2026, with overall registrations rising to 83,092 units as against 74,744 units in May 2025. This translates to a healthy 11.17% year-on-year growth, supported by rural demand, ongoing farm activity, and expectations around the upcoming Kharif season.
The May 2026 numbers from FADA indicate that India’s farm equipment market remains resilient, with leading tractor manufacturers gaining ground while smaller players came under pressure. The data also highlights a clear consolidation trend, as the top OEMs continued to strengthen their share in the retail market.

Metric | May 2026 | May 2025 | YoY Growth |
Total Tractor Retail Sales | 83,092 units | 74,744 units | 11.17% |
The growth in tractor retails is significant because tractors are closely linked to rural liquidity, crop cycles, agri sentiment, and financing availability. A double-digit expansion in May suggests that demand conditions remained favourable despite seasonal and cost-related challenges.

What the May 2026 Numbers Indicate
The tractor retail market’s growth in May 2026 reflects improving rural sentiment and the continued importance of tractors as an economic indicator for India’s agricultural economy. A good start to the agricultural season, farm cash flows, and expectations around monsoon-led demand appear to have supported retail momentum.
The data also shows that larger OEMs are becoming stronger. Mahindra Tractor Division, Swaraj, Sonalika, TAFE and Escorts Kubota together accounted for a major share of the market. TAFE’s sharp rise was the biggest story of the month, while Mahindra continued to dominate the overall retail landscape.
Auto Punditz Take
May 2026 was a positive month for India’s tractor retail industry. The market grew in double digits and crossed the 83,000-unit mark, showing that rural demand remained healthy. Mahindra continued to lead comfortably, while Swaraj and Sonalika held their positions among the top three.
However, the biggest highlight was TAFE, which outpaced every major OEM with over 42% growth and a sharp market share gain. Escorts Kubota and CNH Industrial also delivered strong performances.
The tractor market is now showing two clear trends: demand recovery in rural India and consolidation in favour of larger OEMs. If monsoon distribution remains favourable and Kharif sowing progresses well, tractor demand could remain strong in the coming months.
