For Indian buyers, the appeal is a combination of traditional roadster styling and modern equipment, with the T4 providing the lowest entry price and the T40 models offering the more premium proposition.

Traditional Bonneville design

The T40 adopts a classic roadster silhouette, with a sculpted fuel tank, round headlamp, bench seat and peashooter-style exhaust. Chrome and brushed-metal detailing distinguish the standard T40, while the T40 Black uses darker finishes. The choice between these two equally priced models is primarily about appearance.

Triumph’s Indian T40 Black specification lists the following:

T40 equipment adds modern convenience

Triumph’s T40 announcement lists a four-inch circular colour TFT display, an analogue-style Heritage display setting, cruise control, cornering ABS and cornering traction control. Road, Rain and Eco modes are accompanied by two customisable modes. These features relate to the T40 models and should not be assumed to be standard on the entry-level T4.

Auto Punditz buyer’s view

The T4’s ₹25,000 saving deserves attention from buyers drawn primarily to the styling. However, compare its final equipment list with the T40 before deciding whether the saving outweighs the additional features.

Between the T40 and T40 Black, inspect both finishes in person. With identical announced prices, colour preference and the appearance of the metalwork are likely to influence the choice.

Buyers should also check pillion comfort and low-speed manoeuvrability. A 790mm seat height is only part of the accessibility equation: the listed 195kg ready-to-ride weight matters when reversing out of parking spaces or handling an incline. The Indian specification also lists tubed spoke wheels, making puncture-repair arrangements worth considering for touring.

The new range gives buyers another interpretation of the classic roadster. Its ownership proposition will depend on how the styling and equipment translate into everyday comfort, service convenience and running costs.
