Over 1.42 crore two wheelers were sold in the Indian market for the year 2020. The Two Wheeler Industry recorded a degrowth of -23.2% YoY and was primarily due to the zero offtake in April'20.
Hero Motocorp recorded a YoY fall of -19.2% v/s Industry's degrowth of -23.2%. The OEM was hence able to gain a Market Share of 1.8% in 2020 vis-a-vis 2019.
Honda volumes fell -25.5% YoY and it also recorded the highest Market Share fall in 2020. HMSI primarily lost in the commuter motorcycle segment and its best seller Activa volumes fell too.
TVS too followed HMSI and lost over -26% volumes YoY. It also saw a dip in Market Share by -0.6%.
Do note Royal Enfield was able to enhance its Market Share even with competition stiffening up. Jawa & Honda has made presence in the segment - However; RE was able to gain Market Share. The volumes of the 650 twins have been impressive too.
Yamaha was the only mass market OEM to gain Market Share in 2020 apart from Hero & Royal Enfield. The OEM registered a drop in volumes of -20.5% YoY.

Let us now have a look at the Top 15 selling Motorcycles of the Year 2020 -
Hero had a clear lead in the Motorcycles segment and 5 models from the OEM fared in the Top 15 list. Do note that Splendor + Super Splendor sold near to 23 Lakh units in 2020!
Pulsar series has been an undoubted hit for Bajaj and helped it fight HMSI in the segment clearly. Pulsar was also managed to outsell Honda's Shine in 2020!
Royal Enfield's Classic 350 fared in the Top 5 and was the fifth best selling Motorcyle of 2020.
Top 15 selling Scooters of the Year 2020 -
Honda's Activa maintained the clear lead and was the undoubted No.1 Scooter of 2020. It sold near to 19 Lakh units and continued Honda's dominance in the segment.
TVS Jupiter stood second in the list and was closely followed by Suzuki Access.
TVS had 4 offerings in the Top 15; followed by 3 models from Honda & Hero each.
