Ultraviolette Delivers 183 X-47 ‘Skyforce’ Electric Motorcycles to Kolkata Police
Ultraviolette Automotive has delivered 183 specially configured X-47 electric motorcycles to the Kolkata Police. Called the X-47 ‘Skyforce’, the new patrol-focused variant has been developed specifically for law-enforcement operations. The motorcycles were formally handed over at the Lalbazar Police Headquarters in Kolkata. According to Ultraviolette, this is one of the largest deployments of electric motorcycles by an Indian police force.

The Skyforce is based on Ultraviolette’s X-47 electric crossover motorcycle, combining road-focused performance with multi-terrain capability. However, the police version features several functional changes to accommodate the equipment required for patrol duties. Ultraviolette has not disclosed the battery capacity, charging time or procurement value of the police fleet.
Purpose-Built Equipment for Police Operations
The X-47 Skyforce gets an upgraded electronic architecture designed to support police-specific accessories. The equipment fitted to the motorcycles includes:

The motorcycles underwent testing before being handed over to the Kolkata Police. Ultraviolette says the model has been configured for regular operational use rather than being deployed only for ceremonial or promotional duties. The combination of panniers, communication-equipment mounts and a public-address system should allow the motorcycles to be used for traffic management, patrolling, escort duties and quick-response operations.
Performance Suited to Urban Patrol Duties
The X-47 Skyforce produces 36 hp and has a claimed top speed of 145 km/h. Its certified IDC range of 211 km is expected to be sufficient for most daily urban-patrol requirements, although real-world range will depend on traffic, riding conditions, payload and the use of auxiliary equipment.
A motorcycle can also offer practical advantages in congested areas where larger police vehicles may struggle to move quickly. Kolkata’s dense road network makes manoeuvrability particularly important for traffic enforcement and emergency-response duties.
The X-47’s crossover-style construction is intended to provide greater adaptability across different road surfaces. However, Ultraviolette has not revealed whether the Skyforce receives mechanical changes to its suspension, brakes, tyres or chassis compared with the corresponding civilian model.
Why Electric Motorcycles Make Sense for Police Fleets
Police motorcycles generally cover predictable routes and return to designated facilities after duty. This usage pattern could make fleet charging easier to manage than it is for privately owned electric vehicles that depend on public charging infrastructure. Electric motorcycles may also offer lower energy and routine maintenance costs because they have fewer moving drivetrain components than petrol motorcycles. Centralised charging at police stations or fleet depots could further reduce dependence on public chargers.
The long-term operational benefit will nevertheless depend on factors such as charging availability, battery durability, vehicle utilisation and after-sales support. Police motorcycles often operate for extended hours and may need to be available at short notice, making charging turnaround and fleet planning critical. The procurement also gives Ultraviolette an opportunity to demonstrate the durability of its electric motorcycles under intensive real-world conditions. Police-fleet usage is generally more demanding than regular private commuting, particularly in terms of daily running, payload and operating hours.
A New Institutional Use Case for Ultraviolette
Ultraviolette has primarily positioned itself as a performance-electric-motorcycle manufacturer. The X-47 Skyforce expands the company’s focus into institutional and government fleet applications.
Commenting on the deployment, Ultraviolette CEO and co-founder Narayan Subramaniam said the motorcycle was developed as a tactical machine for police forces and could be adapted to different law-enforcement requirements. The company is backed by investors including TVS Motor Company, Qualcomm Ventures, TDK Ventures, Zoho Corporation, Lingotto and Speciale Invest. It has also been expanding its international presence, with motorcycles exported to several European markets.
