Aprilia is reportedly preparing to expand its premium scooter portfolio in India with the new SXR 175 hp.e. Expected to arrive as early as September 2026, the new maxi-style scooter could combine the practicality and touring-oriented design of the SXR with the more powerful 175cc engine introduced on the latest SR 175 hp.e.
India’s performance scooter segment is getting increasingly interesting, and Aprilia appears ready to strengthen its position with a larger-capacity version of the SXR.
According to recent reports, the Aprilia SXR 175 hp.e could be launched in India in September 2026, potentially arriving ahead of the festive season. Aprilia has not officially announced the launch date or specifications of the new scooter yet.
If launched as reported, the SXR 175 would sit at the top of Aprilia’s maxi-scooter range and offer an alternative to performance-oriented scooters such as the Yamaha Aerox 155 and Hero Xoom 160, while Honda is also preparing to enter this space with the ADV160.

These figures would give the SXR 175 a noticeable performance advantage over the existing SXR 160.

One important differentiator could continue to be its step-through architecture and relatively flat floorboard.

The increase from 11.09 PS to 13.26 PS represents roughly a 20% increase in peak power, while torque could rise by around 17%.
That should be significant enough to make the SXR 175 feel substantially stronger than the outgoing 160cc formula rather than being merely a displacement update.
Growing Competition in India's Performance Scooter Segment
Timing could be particularly important for Aprilia.
India's scooter market has traditionally been dominated by practical 110cc and 125cc products, but manufacturers are increasingly exploring larger and more aspirational scooters.

The SXR 175 could be a more important product for Aprilia than the displacement increase initially suggests.
Aprilia already has the sporty end of the equation covered with the SR 175 hp.e. Putting the same stronger engine into the SXR's more comfortable and practical package would allow the company to target a somewhat broader customer base.
The reported 13.26 PS output also gives Aprilia a useful performance story. Compared with the SXR 160's 11.09 PS, this is a meaningful upgrade rather than a minor refresh.
The bigger opportunity, however, lies in combining that performance with step-through practicality, maxi-scooter styling and modern connected features. If the SR 175's 5-inch TFT makes its way across, the SXR will also address one of the areas where the older model was beginning to show its age.
Pricing will ultimately determine how compelling the package becomes. Somewhere around the ₹1.4-1.5 lakh mark would place it in an increasingly competitive part of the market, but the Aprilia badge, distinctive styling and stronger engine could still give the SXR 175 its own niche.
With Yamaha, Hero and Honda increasing their attention on larger scooters, the arrival of the SXR 175 could also be another sign that India's premium 150-175cc scooter segment is finally moving beyond being a niche category.
