Ather Konarc Could Get Six Variants and Up to 200 km Range – New Details Emerge Ahead of August 29 Debut

Ather Energy is preparing for one of its most important product launches yet, with the all-new Ather Konarc scheduled to be revealed on August 29, 2026. Ahead of its official debut, fresh information suggests that the upcoming electric scooter could arrive with as many as six variants, multiple battery options and an IDC-certified range extending up to 200 km.


The Konarc will be the first production model based on Ather’s new EL platform, an architecture specifically developed to help the Bengaluru-based EV maker enter a broader and more price-sensitive section of India's electric two-wheeler market. Ather itself has confirmed that the Konarc will be revealed on August 29, although detailed specifications and pricing remain under wraps for now.

Ather Konarc Could Get Six Variants

According to information that has surfaced ahead of the launch, Ather could introduce the Konarc in six versions:

Series

Expected Variants

S Series

SR1, SR2, SR3, SR4

Q Series

QR2, QR3

The exact positioning of the S and Q versions has not yet been officially disclosed. However, such a structure would allow Ather to create a broad price ladder, potentially combining different battery capacities, equipment levels and connected features.

New 'Bedrock' Battery Could Offer Up to 200 km Range

The biggest talking point is the reported introduction of a new battery family internally referred to as Bedrock.

The Konarc is reportedly being developed with multiple configurations delivering claimed IDC ranges of:

  • 100 km

  • 125 km

  • 160 km

  • 200 km

If the 200 km figure makes it to the production scooter, the Konarc would establish a significant range advantage within Ather's mainstream portfolio.

For perspective, Ather currently lists up to 161 km IDC range for selected versions of the 450 series, while the performance-oriented 450 Apex is rated at 165 km IDC. The actual battery capacities associated with each Konarc range figure have not yet been officially revealed.


EL Platform Is Ather's Big Volume Play

Konarc isn't just another new scooter for Ather. It represents the commercial debut of the company's EL platform, first showcased during Ather Community Day 2025.


Ather describes EL as a scalable architecture focused on versatility, manufacturing efficiency and cost optimisation. The platform uses a common chassis, powertrain and electronics architecture to support multiple future products. More importantly, Ather has stated that the EL platform is targeted primarily at the ₹1 lakh–₹1.25 lakh segment, where the company believes roughly half of India's scooter volumes are concentrated.


That positioning explains why the Konarc could be considerably more important to Ather's volume ambitions than simply adding another model alongside the Rizta and 450 range.


Built-In Charger Could Improve Everyday Convenience

Another interesting feature reportedly planned for the Konarc is an integrated 450W onboard charger. Instead of carrying a separate portable charging unit, owners may be able to connect the scooter directly to a regular power socket using an integrated charging cable.


An additional 450W charger is also expected to be offered. When both are used together, the effective charging capacity could increase to 900W. According to the leaked specifications, this combination could enable a 0-80% charge in around two hours. That approach could be particularly useful for apartment users and buyers who don't have access to permanent dedicated charging equipment.


'Airwalk' Could Make Moving the Scooter Easier

Ather is also reportedly developing a feature called Airwalk for the Konarc. The system is said to use the electric motor to assist the rider while manually moving the scooter at walking speeds.

Such functionality can make a noticeable difference on heavier electric scooters, especially while:

  • manoeuvring in tight parking spaces,

  • moving the vehicle up a ramp,

  • reversing out of a parking spot,

  • or pushing the scooter with luggage or a pillion load.

It appears to be an evolution of the convenience features increasingly becoming important in family-oriented electric scooters.


Longer 10,000 km Service Interval Expected

Konarc may also offer a relatively relaxed maintenance schedule. Leaked details indicate a service interval of one year or 10,000 km, whichever occurs first. A Quieter Electric Drivetrain

Another unusual detail concerns refinement.

The Konarc's electric drivetrain is reportedly engineered to operate with significantly less of the characteristic electric motor whine heard on some existing scooters.


While outright performance figures remain unknown, the focus on refinement reinforces the expectation that Konarc will be aimed more at practical everyday mobility rather than the sporty character traditionally associated with Ather's 450 range.


Where Will Konarc Sit Against Rizta?

This is perhaps the most interesting question. Ather already has the Rizta, positioned squarely as its family scooter. The company currently lists Rizta prices beginning around ₹1.21 lakh depending on location and applicable benefits.


Konarc therefore appears likely to push Ather further down the pricing ladder while retaining the company's technology and software ecosystem. Rather than directly replacing Rizta, the Konarc could potentially act as Ather's higher-volume entry model, leaving Rizta positioned as the roomier, more premium family offering. Final positioning will become clearer once Ather reveals prices and variant-wise specifications.


Competition Will Be Intense

The Konarc will enter one of India's most competitive electric two-wheeler categories.

Its primary rivals are likely to include products from: TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, Ola Electric, Vida.


A wide range spread between around 100 km and 200 km could allow Ather to address multiple buyer groups using the same basic product architecture—from short-distance urban commuters to customers who place greater importance on range. The strategy is similar to how successful mass-market scooter manufacturers use multiple trims and powertrain configurations to cover a large portion of the market with one core model.


Why Konarc Matters for Ather

Until now, Ather's positioning has largely revolved around premium technology, performance and connected features. The EL platform represents a slightly different strategy.


Ather's FY2025-26 annual report specifically identifies the ₹1 lakh–₹1.25 lakh segment as an important area where the company currently lacks representation. The company also says the simplified architecture and reduced component count of the EL platform should improve manufacturing efficiency, serviceability and development speed.


That potentially allows Ather to pursue two objectives simultaneously: bring acquisition prices down while maintaining the technology-led identity of the brand. If executed well, Konarc could therefore become one of the company's biggest volume drivers.


Auto Punditz Take

The 200 km Konarc is the specification worth watching, but the more important story may actually be the platform underneath it. Ather's existing products have built a strong reputation around performance, software and engineering, but reaching significantly larger volumes requires participation in the mainstream ₹1 lakh–₹1.25 lakh scooter market.


Konarc appears designed precisely for that job. Offering several range configurations could be particularly smart. Not every city rider needs a large and expensive battery, while buyers without reliable everyday charging access may happily pay more for a 160-200 km version.


The reported onboard-charging solution and Airwalk feature also suggest Ather has concentrated heavily on convenience rather than simply adding headline specifications.

The biggest variable will be price. If Ather manages to offer the lower-range Konarc variants close to ₹1 lakh while keeping its connectivity, battery management and ownership ecosystem intact, Konarc could dramatically widen the company's addressable customer base.


And if the reported 200 km IDC variant arrives at a sensible premium, Ather could have one of the most compelling long-range family electric scooters in the market. All eyes now turn to August 29, 2026, when the final Konarc range, battery sizes, performance figures, equipment and prices should become clear.
