Audi A2 e-tron Debuts as Brand’s Smallest EV with Up to 646km Range

Audi has revived the A2 nameplate for its new entry-level electric car—the Audi A2 e-tron. Developed primarily for European buyers, it becomes the smallest and most affordable electric model in Audi’s global portfolio.
The compact EV focuses on efficiency, everyday practicality and intelligent use of space rather than simply offering a larger battery. Audi claims energy consumption as low as 12.8kWh per 100km, making the A2 e-tron the most efficient series-production model in the company’s history. Its maximum WLTP-certified range stands at 646km

Four Powertrain and Range Options
The A2 e-tron will be available with four different motor outputs. Every version uses a rear-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous motor and rear-wheel drive.

Interestingly, the longest-range model is not the most powerful version. The 170kW variant delivers the headline 646km range, while the 240kW performance model offers up to 630km.
The 140kW version equipped with Audi’s optional efficiency package records consumption of only 12.8kWh per 100km.
LFP and NMC Battery Options
Audi uses two battery chemistries across the A2 e-tron range.
The 52kWh and 61kWh batteries use lithium iron phosphate, or LFP, cells. Audi says the cell-to-pack construction helps achieve better packaging efficiency while the chemistry provides durability and consistent performance at lower states of charge.
The larger 84kWh battery uses nickel-manganese-cobalt, or NMC, chemistry and is offered with the 170kW and 240kW variants.

The 84kWh versions can recover approximately 200km of driving range in around 10 minutes under suitable charging conditions.
Aerodynamic Design Improves Efficiency
The A2 e-tron has a drag coefficient of 0.24, the best figure among Audi’s compact models.
Its aerodynamic measures include:

The car has short overhangs and a relatively long 2.77-metre wheelbase, allowing Audi to create more cabin space within a compact exterior footprint.
Practical Interior with Two Large Displays
The cabin gets Audi’s curved MMI panoramic display as standard. It combines an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster with a 12.8-inch central touchscreen.
The equipment list includes an AI-enabled Audi voice assistant, e-tron route planner, adaptive cruise control, reversing camera, parking sensors and multiple active-safety systems.

The boot offers 396 litres of storage, expanding to 1,336 litres with the rear seats folded. The larger-battery versions also receive a small 13-litre front storage compartment.
Bidirectional Charging Included
The A2 e-tron supports Vehicle-to-Load functionality, allowing the battery to power external devices, equipment or even an electric bicycle.
Vehicle-to-Home compatibility will also be offered in selected European countries. When used with a compatible DC wall box, the car can store electricity generated by rooftop solar panels and supply energy back to the house when required.
Price and European Launch
Audi will open A2 e-tron orders in Germany on September 10, 2026. Prices start at €38,200, while customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in December 2026.
Production will take place at Audi’s Ingolstadt facility in Germany, where the company is reusing more than 1,200 existing manufacturing assets and around 250 robots.
Will the Audi A2 e-tron Launch in India?
Audi has developed the A2 e-tron primarily for European customers, and an Indian launch has not been confirmed.
However, the model could potentially give Audi India a relatively accessible entry point into the premium EV market. If introduced through the completely built-up route, its price would be considerably higher than the direct European conversion because of import duties and associated taxes.
It would sit below the Q4 e-tron and could compete with compact premium electric models from BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo. A locally assembled version would be required for genuinely competitive Indian pricing.
Auto Punditz Take
The A2 e-tron represents an interesting shift in Audi’s EV strategy. Instead of chasing ever-larger batteries and extreme power figures, the company has prioritised low energy consumption, aerodynamics and intelligent packaging.
The 646km claimed range is impressive, but the 12.8kWh per 100km efficiency figure may be the more significant achievement. It demonstrates how reducing energy consumption can improve range without depending solely on oversized and expensive battery packs.
For India, the A2 e-tron could become an attractive urban premium EV, although its prospects would depend heavily on localisation and pricing.
