Key Takeaways
India's seven-seat passenger vehicle market had a strong August, growing 27.7% YoY to 86,703 units. While the Maruti Ertiga continues to hold the No.1 position, its lead is increasingly being challenged by the rapidly growing Mahindra Scorpio.
Mahindra emerged as the key growth driver, with the Scorpio up 58%, the XUV700 family up more than 72%, stable Bolero volumes and an additional 4,508 units coming from the 9S.
At the same time, Toyota continues to occupy a particularly strong position across multiple price bands with the Innova/Hycross, Fortuner and Rumion.
The emergence of newer products including the Mahindra 9S, Nissan Gravite, MG Majestor and Kia Sorento also shows that India's three-row market is becoming increasingly crowded. With buyers now able to choose from affordable MPVs all the way to premium SUVs and luxury people movers, the segment is likely to remain an important growth area for manufacturers.
