India’s hybrid car market recorded 7,877 units in August 2026, declining 18.6% YoY. Toyota dominated with an 80.2% market share, while Maruti Suzuki was the only OEM to register YoY growth.

India’s electric car market recorded 36,593 unit dispatches in August 2026, up 84.9% YoY. Tata retained the top position with 16,042 units and 43.8% market share, while Mahindra more than doubled volumes to 8,313 units.

India’s top 10 MUVs recorded 42,654 dispatches in August 2026, up 7% YoY. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga led the market with 18,516 units and a 43.4% share, followed by Toyota Innova and Kia Carens + Clavis.

India’s 7-seater passenger vehicle segment recorded 86,703 units in August 2026, growing 27.7% YoY. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga retained the top spot with 18,516 units, while Mahindra Scorpio surged 58.3% to 15,576 units.

India’s sub-4m SUV segment recorded 1,21,391 units in August 2026, up 40.9% YoY. Tata Punch led with 21,320 units, followed closely by Maruti Fronx and Tata Nexon.

India’s sedan market grew 15.7% YoY in August 2026 to 32,913 units. Maruti Suzuki Dzire retained an overwhelming lead with 18,418 units and 56% share, while Honda Amaze emerged as the biggest gainer with 100.3% YoY growth.

Petrol lost its position as India’s largest passenger vehicle fuel category in August 2026, with CNG, hybrids and EVs together reaching 41.95% share versus petrol/ethanol at 40.85%.
