Auto Punditz Take
August 2026 data highlights how concentrated India's hybrid passenger vehicle market remains.
Toyota's Hycross and Hyryder alone accounted for around 77% of the total market, while Toyota as a manufacturer controlled slightly over 80% of hybrid dispatches.
Maruti Suzuki, however, is gradually strengthening its presence. Its hybrid volumes grew despite the broader segment decline, supported by the Grand Vitara, Invicto and Victoris.
The bigger question over the coming months will be whether additional hybrid launches can broaden the market beyond Toyota's current dominance and help the segment return to growth.
Note: The figures above are based on OEM dispatch data for August 2026 and represent wholesale volumes rather than retail registrations.
