Auto Punditz Take

The August 2026 numbers underline the continued strength of India's sub-4m SUV market.

The Tata Punch was the clear winner, almost doubling its volumes and taking the No. 1 position with a 17.6% share. The Fronx and Nexon were separated by fewer than 300 units, highlighting just how intense competition has become near the top.

Another important trend is that growth is not restricted to one manufacturer. Hyundai's Venue and Exter, Mahindra's 3XO and Kia's Sonet all recorded healthy increases, suggesting that the overall category itself is expanding rather than growth simply shifting between brands.

With 1.21 lakh units sold in a single month, sub-4m SUVs continue to remain one of the most important volume segments of the Indian passenger vehicle market.
