Best-Selling Mid SUVs in July 2026: Hyundai Creta Leads, Scorpio Second; Kia Seltos Sales More Than Double

India’s mid-size SUV segment delivered a strong performance in July 2026, supported by healthy demand for established nameplates as well as the arrival of several new models. According to the dispatch data, the segment recorded 1,31,513 units in July 2026, compared with 92,261 units in July 2025, translating into a robust 42.5% year-on-year growth.


The Hyundai Creta retained the top position with more than 18,000 units, while the Mahindra Scorpio remained a strong second. However, one of the biggest stories of the month was the Kia Seltos, whose volumes more than doubled from last year. Newer entrants such as the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Tata Sierra and Mahindra 9S also contributed significantly to the expansion of the segment.

  • Hyundai Creta continued to dominate the segment in July 2026 with dispatches of 18,088 units, up from 16,898 units in July 2025. This represents a 7% YoY increase. With a 13.8% segment share, the Creta alone accounted for almost one in every seven mid-size SUVs dispatched during the month.

  • Mahindra's Scorpio range recorded another strong month with 16,009 units, compared with 13,747 units in the corresponding period last year. Volumes grew by 16.5% YoY, giving the Scorpio a sizeable 12.2% share of the segment.

  • The standout performer among established models was the Kia Seltos. Kia dispatched 12,541 Seltos units in July 2026, versus just 6,010 units in July 2025. That represents an exceptional 108.7% YoY growth. The Seltos secured third position and commanded 9.5% of the overall mid-SUV market during the month.

  • Maruti Suzuki Victoris emerged as one of the biggest contributors to the segment's overall growth. With 11,334 units dispatched during July, the Victoris immediately moved into fourth position, capturing an impressive 8.6% market share.

  • Mahindra Thar finished fifth with 10,558 units, growing 7.2% from 9,845 units a year earlier. Its 8% segment share makes the Thar another significant volume generator for Mahindra.

  • Bolero wasn't far behind either. At 9,336 units, Bolero sales increased 24.3% YoY from 7,513 units, giving it a 7.1% share.

  • Mahindra's XUV 7XO occupied seventh position with 8,233 units, up 16.7% YoY from 7,054 units. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara followed closely with 8,127 units, recording an even stronger 27.5% YoY growthfrom 6,373 units last year.

  • Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder was the highest-selling model in the top 10 to report a year-on-year decline. Dispatches fell from 8,814 units in July 2025 to 7,187 units in July 2026, representing an 18.5% contraction.

  • Tata Sierra made a strong impact with 6,327 units, placing it 10th overall.

  • Another new Mahindra offering, the 9S, registered 4,131 units and occupied 12th position with a 3.1% market share.

  • Tata Harrier was another notable gainer during July. Volumes increased from 2,216 units to 3,301 units, resulting in strong 49% YoY growth.

  • The Safari also moved in the positive direction, growing 17% from 1,242 units to 1,453 units.

  • However, the Tata Curvv recorded a 15.4% decline, with dispatches falling to 1,697 units from 2,005 units last year.

  • Electric SUVs are now spread across multiple positions in the mid-SUV rankings. MG's Windsor continued to generate healthy volumes, reaching 4,659 units, up 8.1% YoY.

  • Mahindra's XEV 9e, meanwhile, declined 27.2% to 1,793 units, while the BE 6 saw a considerably sharper 65% contraction, dropping from 1,546 units to just 541 units.

  • Maruti Suzuki eVitara registered 1,675 units, while Toyota's eBella stood at 283 units.

  • Volkswagen Group's two mid-size SUVs remained relatively subdued during July.

    The Volkswagen Taigun recorded 1,225 units, down 7.7% YoY, while the Skoda Kushaq registered 833 units, a decline of 7.5%.

July 2026 highlights just how rapidly India's mid-SUV market is expanding and evolving. While the Hyundai Creta continues to set the benchmark, the gap at the top is narrowing as Mahindra, Kia and Maruti Suzuki strengthen their portfolios.


The remarkable recovery of the Seltos and the strong opening performances of models such as the Victoris and Sierra are particularly significant. At the same time, Mahindra's presence across multiple positions demonstrates how effectively the manufacturer has built a broad SUV portfolio.


With several new nameplates now competing against long-established leaders, India's mid-SUV category appears set for an increasingly intense battle through the remainder of 2026.
