Honda City's sales in April 2021 jumped 284 percent on an MoM basis to 3,128 units, as compared to 815 units sold in March 2021. It also became the bestselling executive sedan in the country for Apr'21, beating rivals like Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, etc. Honda City contributed to almost 37 percent of the segment's volume in Apr'21.
The Executive Sedan segment recorded a 20 percent increase in sales in April 2021 and was singlehandedly influenced by City's sales growth. The global microchip crisis had hit Honda Cars hard in March 2021 and affected production severely. Hence April 2021 volumes would have also recovered volumes lost in March 2021.
Honda City undoubtedly is the most updated and feature-loaded car in the segment. The fifth-generation model is still the segment favorite and continues Honda's legacy.
Hyundai Verna continues to deliver good performance and is competing with Honda's City closely. The model registered dispatches of 2,552 units in April 2021 with a dip of 8 percent over March 2021.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz witnessed a 4 percent decline in MoM numbers. The midsized executive sedan sold 1,567 units in April 2021, as compared to 1,628 units in March 2021.
Skoda Rapid was the fourth best-selling executive sedan in the country in April 2021 with 848 units sold last month. It registered a 6 percent MoM fall in April 2021, as it retailed 903 units in March 2021.
Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen Vento are the two other models in the segment that were positioned in the fifth and sixth spots respectively. Toyota Yaris outsold Vento in April 2021, as it recorded 285 units last month. On the other hand, Volkswagen Vento sold 170 units in April 2021.
