Hyundai Verna recorded dispatches of 1,181 units in May 2021. It became the bestselling executive sedan in the country for May'21, beating rivals like Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, etc. Hyundai Verna contributed to over 34 percent of the segment's volume in May'21.
The Executive Sedan too was impacted by the slowdown and the volumes fell 60 percent in May 2021 when compared to April 2021. Models like Toyota Yaris recorded ZERO dispatches in May 2021 and the segment best-sellers like City, Verna, and Ciaz reported >50% sales in M-o-M business.
Hyundai Verna continues to deliver a stellar performance in the segment and is competing with Honda's City closely. The model registered dispatches of 1,181 units in May 2021 with a dip of 54 percent over April 2021.
Honda City undoubtedly is the most updated and feature-loaded car in the segment. The fifth-generation model is still the segment favorite and continues Honda's legacy. However; Honda has been pretty inconsistent in terms of production of the model and varies month after month. While Mar'21 shipments were affected by semiconductor shortage; the Covid19 impact hit the volumes again in May'21.
Skoda Rapid overtook Ciaz to become the third best-selling car in the segment for May 2021. 603 units were dispatched in May 2021 and the volumes dropped 29 percent when compared to April 2021.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz witnessed a 78 percent decline in MoM numbers. The midsized executive sedan sold 349 units in May 2021, as compared to 1,567 units in April 2021. Maruti's plant shutdown for over half a month impacted the dispatches severely.
VW Vento ranked fifth in the segment with shipments of 169 units in May 2021. It had almost a flat growth when compared to April 2021.
Toyota Yaris positioned in the sixth spot with ZERO dispatches last month.
