Maruti Suzuki increased exports by 24,813 units, rising from 2,05,763 units to 2,30,576 units. Its 12.1% growth comfortably exceeded the overall market’s expansion. The company’s export share increased from 46.1% to 51.1%, a gain of 4.9 percentage points based on unrounded figures. Maruti Suzuki exported more vehicles than all the other manufacturers in the dataset combined. Its contribution was particularly significant because the remaining OEMs collectively saw exports fall by 19,218 units, from 2,40,121 units to 2,20,903 units. Maruti Suzuki’s increase offset that contraction and kept total exports in positive territory.
Hyundai ranked second with 92,008 units, down 7.6% from 99,540 units. Its export share declined from 22.3% to 20.4%.
Together, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai exported 3,22,584 units, representing 71.4% of total volumes. This highlights the substantial concentration of exports among the two largest manufacturers in the dataset.
Nissan exported 30,014 units, a 20.2% decline from 37,605 units. Its share eased from 8.4% to 6.6%.
Volkswagen ranked fourth with 20,201 units, down 27.9%. Its reduction of 7,810 units was the largest absolute decline among the listed OEMs.
Toyota followed with 16,679 units, registering an 11.7% decline. Its export share fell from 4.2% to 3.7%.
All four manufacturers immediately behind Maruti Suzuki recorded lower exports than in H1 FY2026.
Kia increased exports 12.9% to 15,434 units, adding 1,768 units and securing sixth position. Its share rose to 3.4%.
Honda ranked seventh with 14,039 units, up 6.0% from 13,243 units.
Renault delivered the strongest percentage growth among the top ten exporters, increasing volumes 69.5% to 11,526 units. Its addition of 4,727 units was the second-largest absolute increase in the dataset, behind Maruti Suzuki. Renault’s export share reached 2.6%, compared with 1.5% a year earlier.
Tata’s exports increased 42.6% to 7,543 units, placing it ninth. The company added 2,254 units over H1 FY2026 and raised its share to 1.7%.
Mahindra ranked tenth with 7,366 units, down 32.2% from 10,862 units. Tata finished the period 177 units ahead of Mahindra.
Citroen’s exports remained broadly stable at 3,782 units, up 0.3%.
Skoda grew 85.6% to 1,481 units, compared with 798 units a year earlier. Jeep’s exports declined 54.8% to 741 units.
Force recorded the highest percentage increase at 376.5%, although volumes rose from a small base of 17 units to 81 units. Isuzu exported eight units against zero in H1 FY2026, making a conventional year-on-year percentage comparison inapplicable.

Auto Punditz Take
India’s car exports recorded modest growth in H1 FY2027, but the OEM breakdown shows a mixed performance. Maruti Suzuki’s additional 24,813 units more than offset the combined decline across the remaining manufacturers.
Renault, Tata, Kia, Honda and Skoda also contributed incremental volumes. However, declines at Hyundai, Nissan, Volkswagen, Toyota and Mahindra limited the overall expansion.
The key measure for the second half will be whether export growth becomes more widespread across manufacturers. For now, the data shows a market that remains in positive territory, with an increasing share concentrated at Maruti Suzuki.
