Kia India has confirmed factory-fitted CNG versions of the Carens and Carens Clavis, formally marking the company’s entry into India’s rapidly expanding CNG passenger-vehicle market. The two CNG MPVs were showcased alongside the new Kia Sorento, with prices scheduled to be announced by the end of September or early October 2026.
Both models will combine Kia’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 60-litre CNG tank. Kia has also made changes to the suspension and braking system to accommodate the additional weight of the CNG hardware.
Kia’s First Factory-Fitted CNG Models in India
Although the Carens has previously been offered with a dealer-installed CNG kit in selected markets, the upcoming version will feature a factory-integrated system.

For comparison, the same engine produces 115hp and 144Nm when running in its regular petrol configuration. The CNG versions therefore deliver 22hp and 21Nm less than their petrol counterparts.
A six-speed manual transmission will be offered with the CNG powertrain. Kia has not confirmed an automatic CNG version.
60-Litre CNG Tank Reduces Boot Capacity
Kia has installed a single 60-litre CNG tank beneath the boot floor. The installation reduces the available luggage capacity from 216 litres in the regular versions to 116 litres in the CNG models.

Both CNG models will be equipped with 16-inch wheels, irrespective of the wheel sizes available on their regular petrol and diesel versions.
CNG Offered on Entry-Level Variants
Kia will limit the CNG powertrain to selected lower variants of both MPVs.
The Carens Clavis CNG will be offered in the HTE and HTE (O) trims. The regular Carens will receive the factory-fitted CNG option in its Premium trim.
