Kia Opens Pre-Bookings for Carens CNG, Clavis CNG and Carnival Hybrid in India
Kia India has opened pre-bookings for the Carens CNG, Carens Clavis CNG and Carnival Limousine Hybrid, significantly expanding its alternative-fuel portfolio ahead of the festive season. Prices for all three models will be announced separately.
Kia India has commenced pre-bookings for three important additions to its passenger vehicle portfolio — the Kia Carens CNG, Carens Clavis CNG and Carnival Limousine Hybrid.
Customers can pre-book the upcoming models through Kia’s authorised dealer network. Kia has not announced the prices of the three new powertrain options yet.
The development follows the recent showcase of the models as Kia accelerates its multi-powertrain strategy for India. While the Carens and Carens Clavis introduce Kia’s first factory-fitted CNG offerings, the Carnival Hybrid brings electrification to the company’s flagship premium MPV.
Kia Carens CNG & Carens Clavis CNG
Both the Carens CNG and Carens Clavis CNG use Kia’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and a factory-integrated CNG system.
The CNG models receive a 60-litre CNG tank, along with CNG-specific engine calibration and revised suspension settings to account for the additional hardware.

The third-row seat-back frame has also been modified to offer an improved recline angle.
Carens CNG and Clavis CNG Output
In CNG mode, the 1.5-litre engine produces around 96 PS and 123 Nm. This represents a reduction of roughly 21 PS and 22 Nm compared with the regular naturally aspirated petrol version.
The installation of the CNG cylinder has an impact on luggage capacity as well. Boot space drops from approximately 216 litres to 116 litres, although Kia retains the spare wheel.

Kia Carnival Limousine Hybrid Pre-Bookings Open
The third major addition is the Kia Carnival Limousine Hybrid, which introduces an electrified powertrain alongside the existing diesel-powered Carnival.
The India-spec Carnival Hybrid will be offered in the range-topping Limousine+ configuration with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid powertrain and 6-speed automatic transmission.
Kia has previously revealed that the 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine develops 180 PS and 265 Nm, while an electric motor provides additional assistance. The international configuration develops roughly 245 PS of combined output and around 368 Nm, although final India-market certified figures should be considered confirmed only once Kia publishes the complete specification sheet.
Carnival Hybrid Gets Additional Equipment
Apart from the electrified powertrain, Kia has differentiated the Carnival Hybrid with several design and convenience upgrades.

The equipment package puts particular emphasis on rear-seat comfort, which remains one of the Carnival’s primary selling points.
Kia Is Expanding Beyond Petrol and Diesel
The timing of the new models is significant.
India’s passenger-vehicle market has been moving rapidly towards alternative fuels. In August 2026, CNG/LPG, hybrids and electric vehicles together accounted for about 41.95% of passenger-vehicle retail sales, marginally exceeding petrol/ethanol vehicles at 40.85%.
CNG/LPG alone accounted for approximately 25.28% of the market.
For Kia, which has traditionally depended heavily on petrol and diesel models, the introduction of factory-fitted CNG and hybrid powertrains therefore represents an important broadening of its India strategy.
The company is effectively building separate powertrain pathways across its portfolio:

Rather than betting on a single transition technology, Kia has indicated that it intends to offer multiple propulsion choices as the Indian market evolves.
Carens CNG Could Target the High-Volume Family MPV Market
The Carens CNG is particularly significant because CNG has become an important purchase consideration in the value-focused MPV segment.
The combination of three-row seating and lower running costs should place the Carens CNG in closer competition with established CNG family vehicles, particularly the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga CNG.
The Carens Clavis CNG, meanwhile, gives Kia an opportunity to offer the same fuel technology with a comparatively newer and more feature-rich package.
The trade-off will be luggage capacity. With the CNG cylinder reducing the boot volume to around 116 litres, buyers who frequently travel with all three rows occupied will need to assess whether the reduction in cargo space works for their usage.
Carnival Hybrid Addresses a Different Customer
The Carnival Hybrid has a very different role.
Rather than competing primarily on acquisition cost, the hybrid is aimed at buyers looking for the space and rear-seat experience of a premium MPV while reducing dependence on a conventional diesel powertrain.
Its combination of a turbo-petrol engine and electric motor should also make the Carnival an important test of demand for strong-hybrid technology in India's premium large-MPV segment.
Auto Punditz Take
Kia launching three alternative-powertrain derivatives almost simultaneously is arguably more important than any one of the models individually.
The Carens CNG and Clavis CNG give Kia access to one of the fastest-growing fuel categories in the mass market, where the company previously had no factory-fitted CNG presence.
The Carnival Hybrid, at the other end of the portfolio, demonstrates how Kia is preparing for electrification without relying entirely on battery-electric vehicles.
There is also an interesting positioning strategy within the Carens family. Keeping CNG primarily on the lower and mid-level trims should allow Kia to keep prices competitive, while the existing turbo-petrol, diesel and electric derivatives can continue targeting buyers prioritising performance, features or electrification.
The biggest number to watch now will therefore be pricing.
A competitive premium over the corresponding petrol variants could make the Carens and Clavis CNG strong additions during the festive season. For the Carnival Hybrid, the gap over the diesel Limousine+ will determine how compelling the hybrid proposition becomes.
With pre-bookings now open, Kia’s next announcement — the Carens CNG, Clavis CNG and Carnival Hybrid prices— will be the crucial one.
