June 2026 is turning out to be one of the most diverse launch months for the Indian passenger vehicle market. The upcoming list includes everything from ultra-luxury plug-in hybrids and V8-powered performance SUVs to strong hybrids, locally assembled premium SUVs and pure electric models.
What makes the month interesting is not just the number of launches, but the spread of powertrains. Mercedes-Benz and BYD are betting on plug-in hybrids, Honda is bringing a strong-hybrid SUV, Tata is preparing its next major EV, while BMW and Skoda are targeting performance SUV buyers. Mini, meanwhile, is looking to make the Countryman range more accessible through local assembly.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Facelift: India’s First PHEV S-Class
Mercedes-Benz will launch the facelifted S-Class in India on June 15, 2026. The biggest highlight will be the S 450e plug-in hybrid variant, which combines a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol inline-six engine with an electric motor and a 22 kWh battery pack.
The S 450e produces a combined 435 hp and 680 Nm, with a claimed 0–100 km/h time of 5.7 seconds. The plug-in hybrid setup is expected to give the flagship sedan a useful electric-only driving range for city commutes, while retaining the long-distance comfort and refinement associated with the S-Class.
The facelift also brings a more expressive exterior design, including a larger grille, updated lighting signatures and more chrome detailing. Inside, the dashboard gets the MBUX Superscreen setup with the latest MB.OS operating system. The car also moves further towards a software-defined architecture with over-the-air updates and fewer physical controls.
For Mercedes-Benz India, the S-Class PHEV is an important addition because it helps the brand offer electrified luxury without pushing buyers directly into a full EV.
Mini Countryman C: Local Assembly To Make The Countryman More Accessible
Mini will launch the Countryman C in India on June 17, 2026. This version will sit below the performance-focused Countryman JCW All4 and will be locally assembled at the BMW Group plant in Chennai.
The Countryman C is expected to use a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Internationally, this engine produces around 136 hp and 230 Nm.
The key talking point is local assembly. This should help Mini offer the Countryman C at a more competitive price than the JCW All4, which currently sits much higher in the range. The Countryman C will target buyers looking for a premium compact SUV with a more distinctive design and brand personality than conventional German luxury SUVs.
It will rival models such as the BMW X1, Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Volvo XC40.
Skoda Kodiaq RS: First RS-Badged Skoda SUV For India
Skoda is expected to bring the Kodiaq RS to India in June 2026. This will be the first RS-badged SUV from Skoda in the Indian market and will sit above the standard Kodiaq.
The international-spec Kodiaq RS uses a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with all-wheel drive. It gets a sportier exterior package with blacked-out elements, aggressive bumpers, larger wheels and red brake calipers. The cabin is expected to follow the performance theme with darker upholstery, sportier front seats and RS-specific detailing.
The Kodiaq RS will likely come through the CBU route, which means pricing will be premium. However, it will give Skoda a stronger performance halo product in India, especially after the strong response to RS-badged models such as the Octavia RS in the past.
BMW X6 M60i xDrive: V8 Coupe-SUV Makes A Comeback
BMW India has opened pre-launch bookings for the new X6 M60i xDrive. The X6 nameplate returns to India after being discontinued in January 2023 and will be sold as a CBU import.
The X6 M60i is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. The powertrain produces 523 hp and 750 Nm, with power going to all four wheels through BMW’s xDrive system. The coupe-SUV can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.
The X6 M60i will appeal to buyers who want performance, road presence and exclusivity in one package. It will compete with the Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe, Audi SQ8 and Porsche Cayenne Coupe.
For BMW, the model strengthens its performance SUV portfolio and caters to a niche but high-value buyer base.
Honda ZR-V e:HEV: Honda’s Premium Hybrid SUV Push
Honda is expected to announce prices for the ZR-V e:HEV around June 2026, with deliveries set to begin from July. The SUV will be imported as a CBU and will sit at the top of Honda’s SUV line-up in India, above the Elevate.
The ZR-V uses a 2.0-litre strong-hybrid petrol engine producing 184 hp and 315 Nm, paired with an e-CVT. The SUV is expected to offer a premium feature package including a digital driver display, large infotainment screen, powered front seats, Bose sound system, powered tailgate, 360-degree camera and Level-2 ADAS.
The ZR-V is important for Honda because it expands the brand’s hybrid portfolio in India. While Toyota and Maruti Suzuki have already built momentum in strong hybrids, Honda will use the ZR-V to target premium SUV buyers who want fuel efficiency and refinement without moving to a diesel or full EV.
BYD PHEV SUV: First Plug-in Hybrid From BYD India
BYD India has teased its first plug-in hybrid model for the Indian market. While the company has not yet officially revealed the exact model, global possibilities include the Atto 2 DM-i and Sealion 6 DM-i.
Internationally, BYD’s plug-in hybrid SUVs offer large combined range figures, with some versions claiming close to or above 1,000 km. This makes the technology attractive for Indian buyers who want EV-like city driving but are still concerned about highway range and charging availability.
Until now, BYD India has focused mainly on pure electric vehicles such as the Atto 3, Seal, eMAX 7 and Sealion 7. A plug-in hybrid SUV would mark a major shift in strategy and could help BYD address a wider premium buyer base.
Tata Sierra EV: The Iconic Nameplate Moves Closer To Launch
The Tata Sierra EV remains one of the most anticipated upcoming electric SUVs in India. However, based on Tata Motors’ latest timeline, the Sierra EV is expected in the second quarter of FY2026-27, which means between July and September 2026.
The Sierra EV is expected to sit between the Curvv EV and Harrier EV in Tata’s electric SUV portfolio. Reports suggest that Tata could offer two battery pack options, including a larger pack targeting over 500 km of real-world range.
The Sierra name carries strong nostalgia in India, and Tata will look to convert that emotional recall into a modern electric lifestyle SUV. The design is expected to retain the Sierra’s signature window-line inspiration while adopting a futuristic EV identity.
June 2026 clearly shows that India’s car market is no longer moving in just one direction. The month brings a rare mix of ICE, strong hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure electric models across very different price bands.
At the luxury end, Mercedes-Benz and BMW are strengthening their high-end portfolios with the S-Class facelift and X6 M60i. Skoda is preparing a performance SUV halo with the Kodiaq RS. Mini is using local assembly to expand the appeal of the Countryman. Honda and BYD are betting on hybridisation, while Tata is preparing the next chapter of its EV story with the Sierra EV.
The bigger message is clear: Indian buyers are entering a multi-powertrain phase. Petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and EV options will continue to co-exist, and June 2026 is a strong example of how carmakers are preparing for that reality.
