Omega Seiki Mobility Begins Developing Accessible EV for Persons with Disabilities

Omega Seiki Mobility has initiated the development of a specially engineered electric vehicle for persons with disabilities. The project will prioritise accessibility, safety, comfort and ease of use, although the company has not yet revealed the vehicle’s specifications, body style, price or launch timeline.


Pune-based electric vehicle manufacturer Omega Seiki Mobility has announced that it has begun designing an electric vehicle specifically for persons with disabilities.


The initiative was announced on September 17, 2026, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. According to the company, the proposed vehicle will be developed using a human-centric approach, with the everyday mobility requirements of persons with disabilities guiding the design process.


At present, the project remains at an early development stage. OSM has not disclosed whether the vehicle will be a two-wheeler, three-wheeler or four-wheeler. Battery capacity, driving range, seating arrangement, production location, expected price and commercial launch schedule have also not been announced.

Users and accessibility experts to shape development

Omega Seiki Mobility said it plans to consult users, accessibility specialists and other relevant stakeholders during the vehicle’s development.


This engagement will be important because accessibility requirements can vary considerably. A person using a wheelchair may require a ramp or lift, sufficient cabin height and secure wheelchair anchoring, while another user may benefit from hand-operated controls, a swivelling seat or easier ingress and egress.


The company has not confirmed any individual accessibility feature. However, its stated development priorities include:

  • Easier entry and exit

  • Improved safety

  • Greater cabin comfort

  • Convenient controls

  • Simple everyday operation

  • Increased independence for users

Features such as wheelchair access, hand controls, adaptable seating and accessible charging interfaces remain possibilities rather than confirmed equipment.


OSM calls mobility a question of independence

Dr Uday Narang, founder and chairman of Omega Seiki Mobility, said mobility is connected with “independence, dignity and the freedom to participate fully in society.”


He added that India’s transition towards electric mobility should include people with a diverse range of mobility requirements. OSM intends to use its vehicle engineering and manufacturing experience to explore a practical, locally developed solution.


The announcement positions the project as a Made-in-India initiative, but the company has not indicated whether the vehicle will use an existing OSM platform or an entirely new architecture.


OSM already operates across multiple EV categories

Omega Seiki Mobility is part of the Anglian Omega Network and primarily operates in the electric commercial mobility segment. Its portfolio includes electric cargo and passenger three-wheelers, while its website also lists two-wheeler and four-wheeler divisions.


Among its existing three-wheeler products are the Rage+ cargo range and Stream passenger models. This experience could provide a foundation for developing an accessible vehicle, particularly if OSM chooses a compact urban mobility format. However, no platform connection has been officially confirmed. Omega Seiki Mobility’s official website lists its current product categories and electric three-wheeler range.


What remains unanswered

The announcement confirms OSM’s intent to develop the vehicle, rather than a production-ready product. Several important questions remain:

  • What type of vehicle will it be?

  • Will it accommodate a wheelchair directly?

  • Will different adaptations be offered for different mobility requirements?

  • Will users be able to drive it independently?

  • How will it comply with applicable vehicle safety and homologation requirements?

  • Will it be sold to individuals, mobility-service operators or institutions?

  • How much will it cost?

  • When will a prototype be presented?

Answers to these questions will determine whether the project can progress from an inclusive design concept to a practical and commercially viable mobility product.
