Around 3.62 Lakh passenger cars were sold in the Indian market in September 2023. The sales increased by over 2% when compared to September last year and by 0.7% in comparison to August 2023.
The festive season is bound to peak in October 2023 citing Dusshera in this month and Diwali in early next month. The vehicle dispatches sustained in Sep'23 considering the buoyant festive demand and high pending order bank. The Industry recorded an all-time high monthly sales in September 2023 and surpassed Aug'23 mark. Sep'23 also saw the launch of Honda Elevate, Tata Nexon Facelift, Citroen C3 Aircross, etc. All automakers are eyeing the festive season to register record sales.
Maruti is riding the SUV wave this year with the support of Grand Vitara, Fronx, Brezza & Jimny. It has already taken the No.1 SUV maker tag and has recovered Market Share in this year. However, the OEM grew by 1.6% in Sep'23 vs. the same period last year.
Hyundai touched the 50k mark again and was supported by the newly launched Exter. Hyundai was able to widen its gap from Tata Motors and it grew 9.1% YoY and gained 0.9% MS.
Tata saw a decline in volumes of Harrier & Safari in Sep'23 considering the soon-to-be-launched facelifts. The Indian OEM volumes dropped by 6% YoY & 1.5% MoM.
Mahindra is rapidly increasing its volumes and was just 3.5k units short of Tata Motors and the OEM recorded its lifetime high number for XUV 700 in Sep'23. M&M recorded the highest sales for the third consecutive month!
Toyota is on a rampage this year and with its recently launched rebadged Rumion it saw a growth of over 44% YoY!
