Tata Motors has expanded its small commercial vehicle and pickup portfolio with the launch of the all-new Tata Intra V40, a CNG + petrol bi-fuel pickup aimed at last-mile cargo operators looking for higher payload, lower running costs and fuel flexibility.
The launch further strengthens Tata Motors’ alternate fuel leadership in India’s fast-growing small commercial vehicle and pickup segment. The Intra V40 has been positioned as a high-load, high-efficiency cargo solution for operators who need dependable performance across city, semi-urban and longer last-mile routes.

Tata Intra V40: Key Highlights
The biggest talking point is the CNG + petrol bi-fuel setup, which gives fleet owners the advantage of CNG’s lower operating cost while retaining petrol as a backup fuel option. This is particularly useful for businesses operating across routes where CNG availability may not be uniform.
The Intra V40 comes with a best-in-class payload capacity of 1,525 kg and a 2,960 mm long load body, which is approximately 9.7 feet. This makes it suitable for a wide range of commercial applications, including FMCG, e-commerce, market logistics, agriculture-linked transport, parcel movement and intra-city cargo distribution.
Power comes from a 1.2-litre engine that produces 58 bhp and 106 Nm of torque. Tata Motors says the vehicle has been engineered to deliver strong performance with superior fuel efficiency, especially for demanding last-mile cargo operations.
Extended Range With 110-Litre CNG Tank
The Intra V40 is equipped with a 110-litre CNG tank, which should help operators cover longer distances between refuelling stops. For commercial vehicle users, this is a crucial factor because higher uptime directly improves earning potential.
The bi-fuel architecture also reduces range anxiety. Operators can continue running on petrol if CNG is unavailable, making the vehicle more practical for mixed-route usage.
Built for Driver Comfort and Safety
Tata Motors has also focused on improving the driving experience. The Intra V40 features a modern walk-through cabin, car-like driving dynamics, and front disc brakes for better control and safety.
The pickup is underpinned by a hydroformed chassis, which is designed to offer better strength, stability and refinement. This should help the vehicle handle heavy loads more confidently while maintaining durability in real-world operating conditions.
Tata Motors’ Alternate Fuel Portfolio Gets Stronger
With the Intra V40, Tata Motors now offers one of the widest alternate fuel portfolios in the small CV and pickup space. Its bi-fuel range includes:
Model | Fuel Type |
Ace Pro Bi-fuel | CNG + Petrol |
Ace CNG 2.0 | CNG |
Intra V20 Gold | Bi-fuel |
Intra V40 | CNG + Petrol |
Alongside this, Tata Motors is also expanding its electric small commercial vehicle portfolio with models such as the Ace Pro EV, Ace EV 1000, and Intra EV Pickup. This gives the company a wider presence across both CNG/bi-fuel and electric cargo mobility solutions.
Why This Launch Matters
The small commercial vehicle segment is becoming increasingly focused on operating economics. For business owners, the purchase decision is no longer only about upfront price. Payload, fuel cost, range, uptime, service support and resale value are equally important.
The Intra V40 addresses this shift by combining three important factors: higher payload capacity, lower running-cost potential through CNG, and operational flexibility through petrol backup. This makes it a practical product for customers who want CNG economics without being fully dependent on CNG availability.
Ownership Support: Sampoorna Seva 2.0 and Fleet Edge
The Intra V40 is backed by Tata Motors’ ownership ecosystem, including Sampoorna Seva 2.0 and Fleet Edge telematics. These services are aimed at improving lifecycle support, predictive maintenance, uptime tracking and fleet productivity.
For fleet operators, connected vehicle insights can help monitor usage patterns, reduce unexpected downtime and improve route efficiency.
The Tata Intra V40 is a timely addition to the Indian SCV market. With fuel costs remaining a major concern for cargo operators, CNG and bi-fuel vehicles are becoming increasingly relevant. The Intra V40’s 1,525 kg payload, 9.7 ft load body and 110-litre CNG tank make it a strong proposition for operators who need both load-carrying ability and fuel-cost control.
More importantly, Tata Motors is not treating alternate fuel as a niche play. The company is building a full ladder of choices across payload segments — from compact bi-fuel models to electric cargo vehicles. This gives it a strong advantage as India’s last-mile logistics ecosystem gradually moves toward cleaner and more economical mobility solutions.
