The SUV segment is the fastest growing segment of the Indian Car Industry. We have almost each and every car manufacturer present in this segment. And also, each and every car manufacturer has multiple launches planned in this segment.
The top 10 SUV models contributed, 5,46,840 units in 20201 YTD. This was a massive growth over LY of 2,20, 445 units. unlike other segments the SUV segment grew over Last Year and Last to Last Year. The same was not the case with hatchbacks & Sedans. The growth over LY was about 3,26,395 units and over LLY the growth stood at 2,70,335 units.
Creta stood at Rank1 YTD with 67,283 units. This was a whopping growth over LY and LLY. The growth stood at 42,558 units over LY. Creta got a market share of 12.30% in the top 20 cars of this Year LTD. Hyundai's other UV product, Venue registered a volume of 54,675 units which was a handsome growth over LY and LLY. Venue registered a market share of 11.01% in the top 20 cars.
Vitara Brezza from Maruti grabbed rank2, with 60,183 units. This was a strong growth over LY of about 32,556 units. However, if we look at LLY the degrowth stood at 8220 units. The Mini SUV from Maruti, Espresso registered 35,389 units, this was a growth over LY and LLY at 10,032 units and 35,389 units respectively . The third UV offering from Maruti - Scross, featured in the top 20 list with 9,539 units.
Kia's both SUV's Seltos and Sonet, established strong volumes this year with 49,643 units of Seltos and 45,668 units of Sonet. However, one would have to note that Seltos has shown the lowest growth in Volumes as compared to LY. The growth stood at 4,428 units.
Mahindra's Thar continues to register strong volumes and sold about 14,288 units this year YTD. The growth volumes come from this model for Mahindra. However, Scorpio sold about 19,465 units, managed to grow over only LY and not LLY YTD. XUV3OO with its stronger marketing campaigns, has garnered 19,383 units. This again was a growth over LY but not LLY YTD.
Tata Nexon, sold about 46,247 units, which was a strong growth over LY by 32,662 units and over LLY grew by 17,621 units.
Other Key Highlights
Hyundai Creta has the highest growth volumes over LY.
Kia Seltos has the highest growth volumes over LLY.
Toyota Fortuner has the lowest growth volume over LY.
Vitara Brezza had the highest degrowth over LLY volumes.
