January 2021 to May 2021:
The Calendar Year 2021 had been entered with optimism, to say the least. We all would like to believe, be it personally or for the automobile sector, the worst is behind us. however, we still have a few challenges up our sleeves and should we fight together, we shall overcome this as well.
Coming to the auto industry, the year 2021 by default will be a big volume year. We have had more than 48 days of lockdown last year, so should we work by the normal, we shall deliver a handsome growth over last year. So, for the year till date analysis, all of us would see handsome growth volumes because of the simple reason, last year April our wholesale of the entire auto industry was at Zero.
Cumulatively the car Industry stood at a volume of 12,18,870 numbers for the current year 2021. This of course as mentioned above was a handsome growth of 5,65,433 units over last year's YTD. This Year YTD we stand at an average of about 3,04,718 units on a monthly basis. against Last year's average of about 2,17,812 units. This is a handsome growth of about 86,905 units per month.
The top 5 Gainers in Market Share were: Tata Motors with a massive gain of 4.29%. This is by far Tata motor's best run for a long time now. The current market share YTD stands at 9.39%, which was about 5.09% during the last year same time. The next in line is Nissan which registered a market share of 1.28%, this again was a jump of about 0.75% from a low of 0.53% LY same time.
Hyundai, which is rank 2 by volume, came in third in terms of Market Share gain, Hyundai gained 0.72% and registered a market share of 17.41%. Mahindra registered a gain of 0.54% and is currently at 5.93% market share.
The manufacturers with less than 0.5% gain in market share are MG, which continues to work on building its volumes from strength to strength. VW has registered a market share of 0.70%, which is a gain of 0.26%. Toyota, Registered a gain of 0.22% which comes on the back of its recent success found through the Maruti models. Kia continued to garner gain, however this time a low gain of 0.21%, and its market share stood at 6.20%. And Renault gained 0.11% market share so far YTD.
Three OEMs lost market share. Skoda lost 0.16% market share and has ended YTD at 0.35%, followed by Ford which lost 0.51% and has ended YTD at 1.81%. However, the highest loss came from Maruti Suzuki on the market share front, a whopping loss of 7.39%, and the market share fell below 50% and has come down to 45.29%.
