TVS Motor-backed Norton Motorcycles has officially showcased the all-new Norton Atlas during its global media first ride in Iceland, marking another major milestone in the revival of one of Britain’s iconic motorcycle brands.
Following the successful unveiling of the Manx range at EICMA 2025, the Atlas becomes the second all-new platform developed entirely under TVS ownership. More importantly, it signals Norton’s return to the highly competitive middleweight adventure motorcycle segment with a product designed in the UK and manufactured in India.

Global Debut in Iceland
Norton selected Iceland’s dramatic volcanic landscapes and challenging road conditions for the Atlas’ first international media ride. The location reflects the motorcycle’s positioning as an adventure tourer capable of handling everything from smooth highways to rough terrain. Early previews from the global media suggest the Atlas has been engineered to blend British styling with modern performance and technology.
Designed in Britain, Built in India
One of the biggest talking points surrounding the Atlas is its manufacturing strategy.
While the motorcycle has been designed and engineered at Norton’s headquarters in Solihull, UK, production takes place at TVS Motor Company’s Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu. This marks the first Norton motorcycle to be manufactured in India following TVS’ acquisition of the legendary British brand in 2020.
The Hosur plant combines TVS’ large-scale manufacturing expertise with Norton’s premium engineering standards, allowing the company to improve production capacity while maintaining quality for global markets.
Two Variants for Different Riders
The Atlas platform arrives in two distinct versions:
Norton Atlas – adventure-focused variant with a 19-inch front wheel for light off-road capability.
Norton Atlas GT – road-biased sport-touring version with 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends.
This dual-model strategy allows Norton to target both adventure enthusiasts and sport-touring riders using the same core platform.
New 585cc Parallel-Twin Engine
Powering both motorcycles is an all-new 585cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine featuring a 270-degree crankshaft configuration.
The engine has been developed specifically for the Atlas platform and aims to deliver strong low- and mid-range torque rather than outright peak horsepower—an approach that suits adventure touring and everyday road riding.
Modern Electronics Package
Despite carrying Norton’s heritage-inspired design language, the Atlas is packed with modern rider aids, including:
Bosch 6-axis IMU
Lean-sensitive ABS
Cornering traction control
Five riding modes
Cornering cruise control
Fully adjustable KYB suspension
8-inch TFT touchscreen
Smartphone connectivity via the Norton Rider app
This makes the Atlas one of the most technologically advanced motorcycles Norton has ever produced.
Why the Atlas Matters for TVS
For TVS Motor Company, the Atlas represents far more than another motorcycle launch.
Since acquiring Norton in 2020, TVS has invested heavily in rebuilding the brand—from engineering and manufacturing to dealer expansion and product development. The Atlas demonstrates how TVS intends to leverage India’s manufacturing strengths while preserving Norton’s British identity and premium positioning.
Unlike TVS’ mass-market motorcycles, Norton will continue targeting premium enthusiasts across Europe, North America and, eventually, India.
India Launch Expectations
Although Norton has not confirmed an official India launch timeline, the Atlas is widely expected to arrive after its global rollout.
Given that production already takes place in India, the motorcycle could become one of Norton’s most accessible models in the country, competing in the growing middleweight adventure segment.
Its principal rivals are expected to include:
Triumph Tiger Sport 660
Suzuki V-Strom 650
Honda Transalp XL750
Yamaha Ténéré 700 (where available)
BMW F 900 GS
Auto Punditz Take
The Norton Atlas could become one of the most important products in TVS Motor Company’s global strategy. Rather than chasing volume, TVS appears focused on establishing Norton as a credible premium British motorcycle brand with global appeal.
Building the Atlas in India while retaining British design and engineering showcases a unique cross-border manufacturing model that combines heritage with scale. If the motorcycle delivers on its promises during international testing, it could significantly strengthen Norton’s comeback and give TVS a stronger foothold in the global premium motorcycle market.
