Two Wheeler Retail Sales Statistics – February 2021

Two Wheeler Registrations saw a dip of -16.1% in Feb’21 v/s Feb’20. Around 10.91 L two-wheelers were sold in India for Feb 2021 v/s sales of 13 L units in Feb 2020. Do note that the Domestic Dispatches of Two Wheelers had increased 10.2% YoY in Feb'21 (source).

OEM wise Two Wheeler Retails / Registrations for February 2021 –

  • The majority of OEMs reported registrations decline in February 2021. The only exception was Yamaha Motor whose retails reported a YoY increase of 2.4%.

  • Hero Motocorp was the Market Leader with 32.12% Market Share in Feb’21. It lost -5.8% Market Share and also reported one of the highest YoY fall.

  • The gap between Honda & Hero is narrowing now. Honda is now slowly strengthening its sales volume and was able to enhance its Market Share by 3.2%.

  • TVS ranked third in the list and its sales fell by -9.1% YoY. The OEM however gained 1.2% Market Share.

  • We are happy to see Jawa Motorcycles volumes being reported here. Jawa sold 2,191 units and its sales fell 47.1% YoY! Going by absolute volumes; Jawa has a long way to go to give real competition to Royal Enfield. RE sales were over 24 times that of Jawa in Feb 2021! We now also have Honda entering the segment in a big way with the H'ness 350.

  • Another trend to note is the EV sales – The EV Two Wheelers grew by 133.8% in Feb’21 v/s Feb’20. The acceptance of EVs is slowly gaining and is reflecting in the volumes.   • Inventory for 2W dealers currently stands at 30-35 days- and the data between Retails v/s Wholesales highlight increasing stock levels at the dealerships.

  • The above numbers do not have figures from AP, MP, LD & TS as all these States/UT’s are not yet on Vahan 4.
