Tata Motors ranked second with 55,303 registrations in June 2026. The brand posted an impressive 50.9% YoY growth over 36,660 units in June 2025.
Mahindra registered 54,359 units in June 2026, growing 17.8% YoY over 46,131 units in June 2025. On a month-on-month basis, Mahindra recorded a small 1.1% increase over May 2026. However, despite volume growth, Mahindra’s market share declined from 14.6% in June 2025 to 13.5% in June 2026, a drop of 1.1 percentage points. The loss in share was mainly due to faster growth from Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors.
Hyundai ranked fourth with 43,991 registrations in June 2026. The company grew 8.0% YoY from 40,744 units in June 2025, but saw a notable 6.8% MoM decline compared to May 2026. Hyundai’s market share fell from 12.9% to 10.9%, marking a sharp 2.0 percentage point decline YoY. Among the top five OEMs, Hyundai witnessed the steepest market share erosion and sales was primarily factored by the fire incident at its vendor facility.
Toyota recorded 28,648 registrations in June 2026, up 13.8% YoY from 25,178 units in June 2025. The company also posted a 3.4% MoM growth over May 2026. Toyota’s market share stood at 7.1%, down from 8.0% a year earlier. While the brand continued to grow in absolute volumes, its market share declined by 0.9 percentage points due to the stronger expansion of the overall market.
Kia India registered 23,029 units in June 2026, growing 18.2% YoY over 19,485 units in June 2025. However, the brand saw a 9.7% MoM decline from May 2026, when it had registered 25,508 units.
Among smaller players, Nissan delivered the highest YoY growth rate among established brands. Nissan registrations rose to 2,745 units, up 96.4% YoY from 1,398 units in June 2025.
Renault also posted strong growth, registering 3,845 units, up 49.1% YoY. However, Renault declined 10.3% MoM, making it one of the weaker performers on a sequential basis.

VinFast registered 1,398 units in June 2026 and ranked 12th in the Vahan registration table. The brand had no comparable base in June 2025. Its market share stood at 0.3% in June 2026, and it grew 9.5% MoM over May 2026.

Auto Punditz Take
June 2026 Vahan registration data shows that India’s passenger vehicle retail market remains in a healthy growth phase. The broader market expanded strongly on a YoY basis, but the sequential dip suggests some cooling after May.
The most important trend is the consolidation at the top. Maruti Suzuki, Tata and Mahindra together controlled nearly seven out of every ten cars registered in India during June 2026. Maruti’s share gain signals strong retail traction, while Tata’s sharp YoY growth helped it stay ahead of Mahindra.
Hyundai, Toyota and Kia continued to post positive YoY growth, but all three lost market share compared to last year. This indicates that growth alone may not be enough in a market where the top players are expanding faster. Overall, June 2026 was a strong month for passenger vehicle registrations, with Maruti and Tata emerging as the biggest winners in terms of market share gains.
