VinFast seems to be quietly preparing the groundwork for its electric two-wheeler entry in India. A new design patent filed by VinFast Trading and Production Joint Stock Company has surfaced online, showing a sharp-looking electric scooter believed to be the VinFast Viper or possibly its next-generation version.
As per the patent image, the design was registered in India on 30 April 2026 under Design Number 500341-001. The title is listed as “Motorcycle”, though the image clearly shows a modern electric scooter.

What The Patent Reveals
The patented scooter carries a sporty, maxi-scooter-inspired stance with a tall front apron, angular LED headlamp setup, compact flyscreen, sculpted side panels and a split-tone body finish. The overall silhouette looks close to the VinFast Viper sold overseas, but the new patent image appears to show revised styling elements, suggesting this could be an updated version.
The front design gets sharp LED lighting with DRL-style signatures, while the rear section features a sleek tail profile. The scooter also appears to get telescopic front forks, twin rear shock absorbers and alloy wheels.
VinFast Viper: Expected Specifications
Globally, VinFast has listed the Viper as a sporty electric scooter powered by a 3,000W BLDC hub motor, with a claimed top speed of up to 70 km/h. The company has also highlighted features such as smart key, vehicle tracking, remote vehicle finding, anti-theft support, LED projector headlamps and dual rear shock absorbers.
Reports suggest the current Viper uses a 1.5 kWh fixed battery, with an optional secondary battery pack that can extend the riding range. The claimed range is around 82 km with the standard battery, while the additional pack can increase usable range further.
Why India Matters For VinFast
India is one of the world’s largest two-wheeler markets, and the electric scooter segment has already seen strong traction from brands like Ola Electric, TVS, Bajaj, Ather and Hero MotoCorp. VinFast entering this space would allow the Vietnamese EV maker to expand beyond electric cars and target mass-market urban mobility.
VinFast has already started building its India strategy around electric SUVs such as the VF 6 and VF 7, while also working on local manufacturing and dealership expansion.
Possible Rivals
If launched in India, the VinFast Viper could compete with:
Ola S1 Pro
Ather Rizta / 450 series
TVS iQube
Bajaj Chetak
Hero Vida V2
Simple One
Its success will depend heavily on pricing, battery warranty, real-world range, charging support and localisation levels.
Launch Timeline
VinFast has not officially confirmed the India launch of the Viper yet. However, the design patent strongly indicates that the company is protecting its electric scooter design for the Indian market. A launch could happen after VinFast strengthens its passenger EV operations in the country.
Auto Punditz Take
The VinFast Viper patent is an important signal. India’s EV scooter market is growing fast, but it is also becoming highly competitive. For VinFast, launching a scooter like the Viper could help build brand visibility beyond premium electric cars. However, to succeed, the company will need aggressive pricing, reliable service support and India-specific battery performance.
