Volkswagen Sales August 2026: Volumes Fall 16% to 2,283 Units; Virtus Leads
Volkswagen reported sales of 2,283 units in August 2026, down from 2,719 units in August 2025, marking a 16% year-on-year decline. Compared with July 2026, when the brand recorded 2,715 units, volumes also fell by 16%.
The Virtus remained Volkswagen’s highest-selling model, followed by the Taigun. Together, these two models contributed 2,239 units, accounting for approximately 98% of the brand’s August volumes.

Virtus recorded 1,301 units, contributing approximately 57% of Volkswagen’s total volumes. However, sales declined by 373 units compared with August 2025, translating into a 22% drop. Against July 2026, the sedan’s volumes fell by 119 units, or 8%.
Taigun registered 938 units, down 6% from 1,001 units in August 2025. Its monthly performance showed a sharper fall, with volumes declining by 287 units from July’s 1,225 units. This translated into a 23% month-on-month decline, making the Taigun the biggest contributor to Volkswagen’s overall volume reduction compared with July.
Tayron recorded 42 units, against 45 units in July 2026, a decline of 7%. With no volumes recorded in August 2025, it added 42 units to Volkswagen’s year-on-year tally, although its contribution remained small.
Tiguan volumes fell to two units, compared with eight units a year earlier and 23 units in July.
The Golf recorded zero units, against 36 units in August 2025 and two units in the preceding month.

Volkswagen’s August performance highlights its heavy dependence on the Virtus and Taigun. The Virtus remained the main volume driver, while the Taigun’s sharper monthly decline weighed on the overall result. With the remaining models contributing just 44 units combined, a recovery in Volkswagen’s total volumes will depend largely on stronger performance from its two core products. The figures alone, however, do not establish whether the declines reflect demand, supply availability or inventory adjustments.
