Xiaomi is expanding beyond performance EVs into lifestyle-focused mobility. After the success of the SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV, the Chinese technology giant has unveiled the SkyNomad N90, a full-size range-extender hybrid SUV designed around flexible interiors rather than outright performance. The new model introduces an innovative cabin capable of transforming into a lounge, workspace, dining area, or even a sleeping space.
While Xiaomi has not announced plans for India, the SkyNomad N90 demonstrates how the company intends to differentiate itself in the increasingly competitive premium SUV segment.

A Different Direction For Xiaomi
Unlike the SU7 and YU7, which are pure electric vehicles, the SkyNomad N90 adopts a series plug-in hybrid (range-extender) architecture. The petrol engine functions solely as a generator, supplying electricity to the battery and electric motors instead of directly driving the wheels. This approach aims to deliver EV-like driving characteristics while reducing range anxiety during long-distance travel.
The SUV is positioned as a premium family vehicle where cabin versatility takes priority over aggressive styling or outright speed.
Large Dimensions With Strong Road Presence
The SkyNomad N90 is every bit a flagship SUV.
Key dimensions
Length: 5,285 mm
Width: 1,998 mm
Height: 1,825 mm
Wheelbase: 3,080 mm
21-inch alloy wheels
Kerb weight: approximately 2.8 tonnes
The design features a boxy silhouette, upright stance, prominent front fascia and T-shaped LED headlamps. A roof-mounted sensor module accommodates advanced driver assistance hardware, while flush door handles and a concealed rear wiper contribute to a clean exterior appearance.
Cabin Designed To Transform
The biggest talking point is undoubtedly the interior.
Instead of following a conventional SUV layout, Xiaomi has engineered the cabin to support multiple configurations depending on occupant needs.
Rotating Front Seats
Both front seats can swivel to face the second row, effectively converting the cabin into a lounge or meeting room when the vehicle is stationary.
Fold-Out Coffee Table
In the five-seat version, the absence of a third row creates enough space for a large fold-out table, turning the SUV into a mobile office or dining area.
Sleeping Configuration
By folding and repositioning the seats, occupants can create a flat sleeping surface suitable for camping or long road trips. This makes the N90 one of the few production SUVs specifically designed around “car living” functionality.
Premium Second Row
The seven-seat version offers:
Powered captain seats
Extendable ottomans
Reclining backrests
Generous legroom
Lounge-style seating arrangement
Technology-Heavy Interior
The dashboard follows Xiaomi’s minimalist design philosophy with:
Massive central infotainment display
Leather upholstery
Multiple panoramic glass roof sections
Minimal physical controls
Connected smart ecosystem integration expected through Xiaomi’s software platform
Given Xiaomi’s background in consumer electronics, the SUV is expected to integrate deeply with the company’s broader HyperOS ecosystem.
Hybrid Powertrain
The SkyNomad N90 combines electric propulsion with a petrol-powered generator.
Powertrain highlights
1.5-litre turbocharged petrol generator
Dual electric motors
Combined output: approximately 420 bhp
76 kWh battery pack
Pure electric driving range: around 370 km
Top speed: 190 km/h
Claimed efficiency: 15.9 km/l once the range extender operates
This configuration is intended to deliver long-distance capability without relying solely on charging infrastructure.
Could It Come To India?
At present, Xiaomi has made no announcement regarding an India launch.
However, India’s premium SUV market is gradually embracing premium electrified powertrains and connected technologies. If Xiaomi eventually enters the Indian passenger vehicle market, products like the SkyNomad N90 could compete with large premium SUVs from brands such as Toyota, Kia, Hyundai and BYD.
For now, the N90 serves as a showcase of Xiaomi’s ambitions beyond smartphones and consumer electronics.
Auto Punditz Take
The SkyNomad N90 represents a fresh interpretation of what a family SUV can be. Rather than focusing solely on acceleration figures or battery size, Xiaomi has prioritised living space, flexibility and everyday usability.
Features such as swivelling seats, a fold-out table and convertible sleeping arrangement transform the SUV into a mobile workspace, lounge and travel companion. As software-defined vehicles continue to evolve, lifestyle-oriented interiors could become a major differentiator in the premium SUV segment.
If the concept proves successful in China, it may encourage other manufacturers to rethink conventional SUV cabin layouts in favour of more versatile, experience-driven designs.
