Petrol lost its position as India’s largest passenger vehicle fuel category in August 2026, with CNG, hybrids and EVs together reaching 41.95% share versus petrol/ethanol at 40.85%.

India's passenger vehicle registrations rose 16% YoY to 3,96,269 units in August 2026, according to Vahan data. Maruti Suzuki remained the market leader with a 41.8% share, while Tata Motors recorded 40.6% YoY growth and strengthened its No. 2 position.

India’s passenger vehicle dispatches surged 33.6% YoY to 4,63,249 units in July 2026, while volumes jumped 18.2% over June. Maruti Suzuki dominated with 1,96,203 units, followed by Tata and Mahindra, as OEMs ramped up dispatches ahead of Onam, Varamahalakshmi and the upcoming festive season.

India's passenger vehicle registrations reached 4,08,753 units in July 2026, growing 18.4% YoY. Maruti Suzuki retained a commanding 39.7% market share, while just 452 units separated Tata Motors and Mahindra in the battle for second place.

Kia India achieved its highest-ever June sales with 24,552 units dispatched, recording 19% YoY growth. The automaker also posted its strongest first-half performance with 1.64 lakh units sold, led by robust demand for the Seltos, Sonet, Carens Clavis and Clavis EV.
