Amazon India has announced plans to deploy around 1,000 electric trucks in collaboration with Eicher Trucks and Buses to strengthen its fast-growing quick commerce operations under Amazon Now. The move is expected to become one of India’s largest dedicated electric truck deployments in the e-commerce and quick commerce space.

Eicher Pro-X Electric Trucks Developed for Amazon
The new fleet will feature the custom-developed Eicher Pro-X electric small trucks, purpose-built for high-frequency intra-city logistics operations. These electric trucks will primarily transport goods between Amazon’s fulfilment hubs located on city outskirts and micro fulfilment centres situated closer to consumers.
Amazon has already inducted around 50 electric trucks into its network and plans to scale the fleet to more than 1,000 units by 2028.
According to the company, the trucks are expected to cover 100-180 km daily while supporting multiple trips between facilities. The vehicles also offer fast charging capabilities with charging times of approximately 50 minutes.
Deployment to Begin Across Major Cities
The initial deployment will begin in key metro markets including:
Delhi-NCR
Bengaluru
Mumbai
The rollout aligns with Amazon India’s aggressive expansion plans for Amazon Now, its ultra-fast delivery platform that offers groceries, personal care products, electronic accessories, festive supplies, and other daily essentials within minutes.
Recently, Amazon announced plans to expand Amazon Now to 100 cities across India with a network of more than 1,000 micro fulfilment centres. Future expansion cities include:
Pune
Hyderabad
Chennai
Kolkata
Jaipur
Lucknow
Kochi
Mangalore
Vizag
Amazon’s EV Push in India Continues
Abhinav Singh, VP Operations at Amazon India and Australia, stated that the company has already deployed over 12,000 electric vehicles across India and continues to deepen electric mobility integration across its logistics ecosystem.
He highlighted that the collaboration with Eicher represents another step towards building a more sustainable transportation network for Amazon’s expanding operations.
Meanwhile, SS Gill, Chief Commercial Officer at VECV, noted that the Eicher Pro-X electric trucks were co-created alongside Amazon to specifically address the operational requirements of ecommerce and quick commerce logistics in India.
Amazon and VECV Collaboration Since 2022
Amazon and VECV have been jointly working on electric truck development since 2022. In 2025 alone, Amazon deployed more than 100 electric trucks across cities such as Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Kolkata through partnerships with multiple manufacturers.
The company currently operates over 12,500 electric vehicles across more than 500 Indian cities, covering both last-mile and middle-mile logistics operations.
Amazon’s Sustainability Initiatives in India
Amazon continues to expand its sustainability efforts across India. Key highlights include:
53 wind and solar projects operational across the country
More than 1.1 GW of carbon-free energy generation capacity
Goal to become water positive by 2027
Clean water and sanitation initiatives benefiting over 1 million people since 2020
Over half of customer orders shipped with reduced or no additional delivery packaging
These initiatives are part of Amazon’s broader Climate Pledge commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across operations by 2040.
AutoPunditz Take
The deployment of 1,000 Eicher electric trucks marks a significant milestone for India’s evolving electric commercial vehicle ecosystem. With ecommerce and quick commerce players rapidly scaling operations, electric middle-mile logistics could emerge as the next major growth segment for EV adoption in India.
For Eicher and VECV, the partnership also strengthens their positioning in the fast-growing electric commercial vehicle market, particularly in urban logistics applications where operating economics and sustainability goals are becoming increasingly important.
