Bentley has officially pulled the wraps off the name of its first fully electric production vehicle. Called the Torcal, the upcoming luxury urban SUV is set to make its global debut in London on September 23, marking one of the most significant milestones in the brand's 106-year history.
The Torcal will become Bentley's fourth core model line, joining the Bentayga SUV, Continental GT grand tourer and Flying Spur luxury sedan. More importantly, it will usher the iconic British marque into the era of pure electric mobility while retaining the craftsmanship and exclusivity the brand is known for.

A New Entry Below the Bentayga
Unlike the Bentayga, which caters to buyers seeking a large luxury SUV, the Torcal has been conceived as a more compact "Luxury Urban SUV." Bentley says the new model is designed to offer effortless usability in city environments without compromising on luxury, performance or presence.
Industry reports suggest the Torcal will measure under five metres in length, making it Bentley's smallest SUV to date. This also places it in an increasingly competitive segment occupied by premium electric SUVs from Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and other luxury manufacturers.
Why 'Torcal'?
Bentley has chosen a name inspired by El Torcal de Antequera, the spectacular limestone rock formations located in southern Spain. Beyond its geographical connection, the name also traces its roots to the Latin word "torquere,"meaning to twist—an apt reference to the instant torque delivered by modern electric powertrains.
The naming follows Bentley's tradition of drawing inspiration from nature and geography while adding a deeper connection to the vehicle's character.
What to Expect
Although Bentley has deliberately kept technical specifications under wraps, several details have already emerged through industry reports.
The Torcal is expected to:
Ride on the Volkswagen Group's Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture.
Share key engineering with the upcoming Porsche Cayenne Electric.
Feature an 800-volt electrical architecture for ultra-fast charging.
Deliver a driving range exceeding 480 km (300 miles).
Introduce Bentley's next-generation digital cabin while retaining physical controls and handcrafted luxury.
Performance figures are expected to be announced during the official unveiling in September.
Beginning of Bentley's Electric Future
The Torcal represents far more than the launch of a new model. It signals the beginning of Bentley's next chapter as the company transitions towards electrification.
While Bentley has revised its long-term strategy and now plans to become an all-electric brand by 2035, the Torcal will serve as the first dedicated EV in its portfolio. The company has also indicated that additional electrified models will follow in the coming years as part of its Beyond100+ roadmap.
AutoPunditz Says
Rather than replacing the Bentayga, the Torcal expands Bentley's portfolio into a segment where demand for premium electric SUVs continues to grow rapidly. By positioning it below its flagship SUV, Bentley aims to attract younger luxury buyers while maintaining the exclusivity associated with the brand.
With its official unveiling scheduled for September 23 in London, the Torcal is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated luxury EV launches of 2026. The event will not only introduce Bentley's first battery-electric vehicle but also offer the clearest indication yet of how the century-old British manufacturer intends to compete in the electric luxury era.
