Best-Selling CNG Cars of H1 2026: Ertiga Leads, Dzire Surges 69%, Victoris Makes a Strong Debut

India’s CNG passenger-vehicle market continued to expand during the first half of 2026, supported by rising fuel costs, wider factory-fitted CNG availability and growing acceptance of CNG-powered SUVs and premium hatchbacks.


The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga retained its position as India’s best-selling CNG car in H1 2026, while the Dzire recorded one of the strongest volume gains among established models. The newly introduced Maruti Suzuki Victoris also entered the ranking directly at seventh place with nearly 39,000 units.


The top 20 models together accounted for approximately 98% of the CNG car market, highlighting the strong concentration of sales among a relatively small group of products.

  • Maruti Suzuki Ertiga CNG maintained its number-one position with sales of 78,764 units during H1 2026. This represented an increase of 14,663 units, or 23%, over the 64,101 units sold during the corresponding period of 2025. The Ertiga averaged approximately 13,127 units per month, making it the highest-volume CNG model in the country.

  • Despite its sales growth, the Ertiga’s share within the CNG-only market declined from 15% in H1 2025 to 13% in H1 2026.

  • Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG emerged as one of the biggest gainers during the period. Sales increased from 44,484 units in H1 2025 to 75,339 units in H1 2026, translating into an addition of 30,855 units and growth of 69%. The Dzire moved up from third position in H1 2025 to second place in H1 2026. Its average monthly sales stood at approximately 12,557 units. Its share of the CNG market also increased from 10% to 13%, a gain of around 2.2 percentage points. The Dzire was consequently separated from the segment-leading Ertiga by only 3,425 units during the six-month period.

  • Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG dropped from second position to third, even though its sales increased by 5%. The model recorded 54,267 units in H1 2026, compared with 51,631 units a year earlier. This represented a volume gain of 2,636 units. However, its CNG market share declined from 12% to 9%, the sharpest share reduction among the leading models.

  • Tata Motors secured the fourth and fifth positions with the Punch CNG and Nexon CNG, underlining the increasing acceptance of CNG-powered SUVs. The Tata Punch sold 41,919 units, up from 29,369 units in H1 2025. This represented an increase of 12,550 units and growth of 43%. The Punch improved its ranking from sixth to fourth while retaining a CNG market share of approximately 7%.

  • Tata Nexon followed closely with 41,355 units, compared with 30,049 units in the previous year. Its sales increased by 11,306 units, or 38%. The Nexon retained fifth position, with an average monthly volume of about 6,893 units. Combined, the Punch and Nexon contributed more than 83,000 CNG units during H1 2026.

  • Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG recorded sales of 39,871 units, representing growth of 8% over the 36,960 units sold in H1 2025. However, the model fell from fourth to sixth position as the Punch and Nexon posted considerably stronger growth. Its CNG market share declined from 9% to 7%, a reduction of around two percentage points. The Brezza averaged approximately 6,645 units per month during the period.

  • Maruti Suzuki Victoris CNG was the most significant new entrant in the H1 2026 rankings. The Victoris captured close to 7% of the CNG-only market, making it one of the most successful new CNG product introductions during the period.

  • Maruti Suzuki Eeco CNG ranked eighth with sales of 36,075 units, up 31% from 27,589 units in H1 2025. The model slipped one position despite adding 8,486 units.

  • Hyundai Aura CNG moved from eighth to ninth position with 35,089 units. Sales increased by 7,929 units, representing growth of 29%.

  • Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG completed the top 10 with 33,876 units, up from 22,747 units. Its 49% growth helped it retain a CNG market share of approximately 6%.

  • Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG remained in eleventh position but posted strong growth of 40%. Sales increased from 11,933 units to 16,701 units, an addition of 4,768 units. Its average monthly sales stood at approximately 2,784 units.

  • Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG recorded 13,444 units, up 16% from 11,618 units in H1 2025. It slipped from eleventh to twelfth position, while its market share declined from approximately 3% to 2%.

  • Maruti Suzuki XL6 CNG sold 12,767 units, representing growth of 22% over the 10,454 units recorded a year earlier. The model also moved down one place to thirteenth position.

  • Hyundai Exter CNG improved from fifteenth to fourteenth position after posting sales of 12,388 units. This represented growth of 37% over its H1 2025 volume of 9,011 units.

  • Toyota Rumion CNG climbed from sixteenth to fifteenth place. Sales increased by 61%, from 7,217 units to 11,616 units.

  • Tata Tiago CNG slipped from thirteenth to sixteenth position after recording modest growth of 4%. Sales increased from 9,617 units to 10,026 units.

  • Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG also witnessed relatively flat performance. Sales rose by only 1%, from 9,042 units to 9,101 units, causing the model to fall from fourteenth to seventeenth position.

  • Hyundai Grand i10 CNG recorded 7,547 units, up from 4,761 units in H1 2025. This translated into growth of 59%and a gain of 2,786 units. The model slipped marginally from seventeenth to eighteenth position but retained approximately 1% of the CNG market.

  • Among models with a comparable base, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG posted the highest percentage growth. Sales increased from just 2,037 units in H1 2025 to 6,867 units in H1 2026, representing growth of 237%. The Hyryder moved up four places, from twenty-third to nineteenth position.

  • Maruti Suzuki Alto CNG completed the top 20 with sales of 5,582 units. This was an increase of 3,017 units over the 2,565 units recorded in H1 2025.

  • Maruti Suzuki placed 12 models in the top 20, including seven of the top eight products. Its broad CNG portfolio now covers entry-level hatchbacks, premium hatchbacks, sedans, MPVs and SUVs.

  • Tata Motors secured three positions through the Punch, Nexon and Tiago, while Hyundai was represented by the Aura, Exter and Grand i10. Toyota placed the Rumion and Hyryder in the rankings.

  • The data also shows that CNG demand is no longer limited to small hatchbacks and compact sedans. SUVs and MPVs such as the Punch, Nexon, Brezza, Victoris, Ertiga, Grand Vitara and Hyryder now account for a substantial portion of the market.
