Electric Two-Wheeler Sales August 2026: TVS Leads as Bajaj Surges 236%; Market Grows 68% YoY
India’s electric two-wheeler market continued to expand strongly in August 2026, with total registrations reaching 1,83,802 units, up 67.6% year-on-year from 1,09,674 units in August 2025.
However, compared with July 2026, when registrations stood at 2,05,693 units, the market declined by 10.6% month-on-month. The August performance therefore reflects a market that remains substantially larger than last year, even though registrations moderated sequentially.
TVS retained the No.1 position, while Bajaj recorded the strongest growth among the leading manufacturers and nearly doubled its market share year-on-year.

The year-on-year growth shows TVS's successful expansion in the electric scooter market.
Bajaj registered 41,181 electric two-wheelers in August, compared to 12,246 units in August 2025, marking a 236.3% YoY increase. It’s market share rose from 11.2% to 22.4%, a gain of 11.2 percentage points in a year. The company is now about 7,900 units behind market leader TVS. Top Four Brands Control Over Three-Fourths of the Market
The August data shows a growing concentration in India's electric two-wheeler market. TVS, Bajaj, Ather, and Hero Vida together hold about 75.2% of the market. Including Ola, the top five manufacturers' share rises to approximately 82.8%. Despite some smaller manufacturers experiencing triple-digit growth, most EV registrations are dominated by a few major brands.
August Market Smaller Than July, But Much Larger Than Last Year
An interesting trend emerges when comparing the industry's YoY and MoM performance.
Total registrations:
August 2026: 1,83,802 units
July 2026: 2,05,693 units
August 2025: 1,09,674 units
This means the market contracted 10.6% month-on-month, but expanded an impressive 67.6% year-on-year.
Most major manufacturers experienced a sequential decline during August, suggesting that July 2026 represented an unusually strong registration month.
The broader growth trajectory, however, remains firmly positive.

Auto Punditz Take
August 2026 clearly demonstrates how dramatically the competitive landscape of India's electric two-wheeler market has changed.
TVS remains the market leader, but Bajaj is rapidly closing the gap, with its market share doubling from 11.2% to 22.4% within a year.
Ather continues to hold a strong third position, while Hero Vida has established itself comfortably above the 10% market-share mark.
Meanwhile, Ola Electric's decline remains the biggest shift in the leaderboard. Its share has fallen from 17.7% in August 2025 to just 7.6% this year despite the overall EV market expanding nearly 68%.
At the same time, emerging manufacturers including River, BGauss, Simple Energy, Motovolt and Quantum Energy are recording very high growth from smaller bases.
With the festive season approaching, the next few months could become particularly important. Higher retail demand, new model introductions, expanded dealership networks and promotional offers could push electric two-wheeler registrations higher again after August's sequential moderation.
