India’s hybrid car market witnessed a sharp month-on-month decline in April 2026. As per the attached data, total hybrid car sales stood at 8,600 units in April 2026, compared to 11,073 units in March 2026. This translates to a 22.3% MoM decline, mainly due to a significant drop in Toyota Innova Hycross and Hyryder volumes.
Despite the slowdown, Toyota continued to dominate India’s hybrid car space, while Maruti Suzuki gained momentum with strong growth from the Victoris, Grand Vitara, and Invicto.

The Toyota Innova Hycross was the best-selling hybrid car in India in April 2026 with 4,100 units. However, sales dropped sharply from 6,357 units in March 2026, registering a 35.5% MoM decline. Even with the drop, the Hycross alone contributed nearly 48% of total hybrid car sales in April 2026.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder ranked second with 2,657 units sold in April 2026. The SUV witnessed a 16.7% MoM decline from 3,191 units in March 2026. Together, the Innova Hycross and Hyryder contributed 6,757 units, which means Toyota accounted for the bulk of India’s hybrid car sales in April 2026.
Victoris sold 793 units, up from 367 units in March 2026, registering a strong 116.1% MoM growth. This made Victoris the third best-selling hybrid car in India for the month and the fastest-growing model in the list.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara sold 426 units in April 2026, growing 5.4% MoM over March. The Maruti Suzuki Invicto also performed positively with 237 units, up 24.1% MoM.
The Toyota Camry recorded 199 units in April 2026, down 9.1% MoM. The Toyota Vellfire saw a sharper drop of 47.3%, with sales falling to 118 units from 224 units in March.
The Honda City Hybrid sold 70 units, down from 120 units in March 2026, registering a 41.7% MoM decline.
India’s hybrid car sales declined in April 2026, but the segment continues to be led strongly by Toyota. The Innova Hycross and Hyryder remained the top two hybrid models, while Maruti Suzuki was the clear growth story of the month.
The Victoris, Grand Vitara, and Invicto were the only models to post positive month-on-month growth, suggesting that Maruti’s hybrid lineup is gaining better traction. On the other hand, premium hybrids like the Vellfire and Camry remained niche, while the Honda City Hybrid continued to operate at low volumes.
Overall, April 2026 showed that India’s hybrid market is still heavily dependent on Toyota’s strong hybrid models, but Maruti Suzuki is steadily expanding its role in the segment.
