JSW Combat Confirmed as Name for Jetour T2-Based SUV; India Launch Expected This Festive Season
JSW Motors is preparing to make its independent entry into the Indian passenger vehicle market, and its first model is now expected to be called the JSW Combat. The upcoming SUV will be based on the Chery Jetour T2, a rugged five-seat SUV sold in several international markets. For India, the model is expected to receive JSW-specific design changes, branding and a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The Combat could make its India debut during the upcoming festive season, potentially marking the beginning of a new product offensive from JSW Motors.
JSW Combat: What We Know So Far
The Combat is expected to retain the basic proportions and character of the Jetour T2. The SUV has an upright, boxy stance with prominent body cladding, chunky bumpers and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. The India-spec model is likely to receive changes to the grille, headlamps and bumpers along with prominent JSW branding.
Key exterior elements expected to feature on the SUV include:
Squarish LED headlamps
Rugged front and rear bumpers
Prominent wheel-arch cladding
Roof rails
20-inch alloy wheels
Vertical LED tail lamps
Tailgate-mounted spare wheel
The overall design positions the Combat more as a rugged lifestyle SUV than a conventional urban crossover.
Premium Cabin With Large Screens
Inside, the Combat is expected to stay close to the global Jetour T2. The dashboard is likely to feature a large 15.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen along with a 10.6-inch digital instrument cluster. The international-spec SUV also offers equipment such as a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, a 12-speaker audio system and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 540-degree camera system, combining a conventional surround-view camera with an underbody view, is also offered on the global T2. Adaptive cruise control and other driver-assistance features could also make their way to the India-spec Combat, although the final equipment list remains to be confirmed.
Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain Expected
One of the most important aspects of the Combat will be its electrified powertrain. The India-spec SUV is expected to use a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with two electric motors and an 18.4kWh battery pack. In the global Jetour T2, this plug-in hybrid system develops a combined output of around: 360hp610Nm
Power is transmitted through a dedicated three-speed hybrid transmission. While the Jetour T2 is available internationally with both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, the Indian Combat is currently expected to launch primarily in a front-wheel-drive configuration.
Up To 90km Electric-Only Range
The 18.4kWh battery used in the global T2 delivers a claimed electric-only driving range of around 90km on the NEDC cycle. The battery also supports both AC and DC charging. With a 6.6kW AC charger, charging from 30 to 100 percent is claimed to take roughly three hours. Using a 50kW DC fast charger, the battery can reportedly be charged from 30 to 80 percent in around 27 minutes.
The global-spec T2 also claims a combined driving range of approximately 1,200km, combining battery and petrol power. Final India-spec range and efficiency figures will, however, depend on homologation and the powertrain configuration selected by JSW Motors.
JSW Combat Expected Price
JSW Motors is understood to be considering an aggressive positioning for the Combat.
The SUV could be priced broadly between ₹30 lakh and ₹50 lakh ex-showroom, although the final price and variant strategy have not yet been announced. If JSW manages to position the Combat towards the lower end of this range, the SUV could occupy a relatively unique space in the Indian market. There are currently very few rugged five-seat plug-in hybrid SUVs in this price bracket.
A Critical Launch for JSW Motors
The Combat will be significant not only as a new SUV but also as the model that introduces the JSW Motors brand to Indian customers. JSW already has exposure to the passenger vehicle industry through its partnership with SAIC Motor in JSW MG Motor India. However, JSW Motors is being developed as a separate automotive business with its own products and dealer network.
The company has also trademarked several names including Combat, Adventura, Cadet, Urbanique, Dominor, Sereno and Eleve, indicating that a broader product portfolio could eventually follow.

Auto Punditz Take
The most interesting aspect of the JSW Combat is not simply its rugged Jetour T2-derived styling — it is the positioning. A five-seat SUV combining 360hp-class plug-in hybrid performance, around 90km of electric range and an expected ₹30-50 lakh price bracket would give JSW Motors a product with very few direct rivals in India.
Pricing will ultimately determine how disruptive the Combat can become. If JSW can localise the SUV aggressively and position key variants closer to the ₹30-35 lakh mark, the Combat could attract buyers looking beyond conventional SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner while also appealing to customers interested in premium electrified vehicles.
For JSW Motors, the Combat therefore has a bigger role than simply generating volumes. It will establish the design language, technology positioning and brand perception for JSW's upcoming passenger vehicle portfolio.
