Mahindra’s upcoming Vision S has been spotted testing again, and the latest spy image strongly suggests that the SUV is moving closer to production. First previewed as part of Mahindra’s Freedom NU showcase, the Vision S is expected to be one of the first production models based on the company’s new NU_IQ architecture. Mahindra says NU_IQ is a modular, multi-energy SUV platform that can support ICE and EV powertrains, with flat-floor packaging and SUV-focused dynamics.

What The Latest Spy Shot Reveals
The camouflaged test mule shows a tall, upright and boxy silhouette. The front fascia appears to carry Mahindra’s vertical grille theme, while the squared-off bonnet, high-set bumper, upright windscreen and pronounced wheel arches give it a proper rugged SUV look.
The test car also appears to have circular lighting elements and a compact footprint, indicating that Mahindra may be targeting the sub-4-metre SUV space.
Vision S: New Bolero Or A Separate Lifestyle SUV?
Several reports suggest that the Vision S could preview the next-generation Bolero or a Bolero-inspired compact SUV. The Vision S concept is based on the modular NU_IQ platform and May also preview the upcoming new-gen Bolero.
This makes strategic sense. The Bolero name has huge rural and semi-urban equity, but Mahindra now needs a more modern product that can appeal to younger buyers without losing the original SUV toughness.
Design: Mini Scorpio Meets Urban Off-Roader
The concept version of the Vision S featured a boxy stance, L-shaped LED DRLs, chunky bumper, skid plates, body cladding, flared wheel arches, flush door handles and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. The concept has an upright stance, rectangular grille, vertical DRLs, rugged cladding and a spare wheel at the rear.
The production model is expected to tone down some concept elements, but the basic character seems intact: rugged, tall and clearly different from soft-road compact SUVs.
Platform And Powertrain
The biggest talking point is the NU_IQ platform. Mahindra confirms that NU_IQ supports ICE and EV powertrains and is designed for global SUV applications. This means the Vision S could offer petrol, diesel and possibly electric derivatives over its lifecycle.
Early reports suggest Mahindra may offer turbo-petrol and diesel engine options. Some spy reports have also pointed towards a diesel automatic possibility, which could become a strong USP in the compact SUV space.
Expected Features
The concept cabin had a dual-screen layout, modern steering wheel, premium seat upholstery, touch-based climate controls, wireless charging, ventilated seat controls and an electronic parking brake.
The production version may not carry every concept feature, but higher variants could offer:
Dual digital displays
Sunroof
360-degree camera
Connected car tech
Ventilated front seats
ADAS on top trims
Automatic transmission options
Launch Timeline And Expected Price
Mahindra’s Vision S is expected to reach production around 2027. Pricing is not official yet, but if Mahindra positions it as a sub-4m SUV, it could sit around the ₹9 lakh–₹15 lakh range, overlapping with the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza and Mahindra XUV 3XO.
Auto Punditz Take
The Vision S could become one of Mahindra’s most important upcoming SUVs. While the XUV 3XO already gives Mahindra a modern compact SUV, the Vision S appears to target a different buyer — someone who wants a tougher, more upright, more lifestyle-oriented SUV. If Mahindra manages to retain the concept’s rugged stance, offer diesel and automatic options, and price it aggressively, the Vision S could become the spiritual successor to the Bolero for a new generation of buyers.
