Maruti Suzuki India is set to achieve a historic milestone today as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi jointly inaugurate the company’s fourth vehicle manufacturing facility at IMT Kharkhoda, Haryana. The inauguration will take place during the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum in New Delhi, underlining the strengthening strategic and industrial partnership between the two nations.

The Kharkhoda facility is one of the largest manufacturing investments in India’s automotive sector and represents Maruti Suzuki’s long-term vision of expanding production capacity while embracing advanced manufacturing and sustainability.

One of India’s Largest Automobile Manufacturing Facilities

Spread across 800 acres with an integrated supplier park, the Kharkhoda plant has been designed to become one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturing facilities.

At full capacity, the plant will:

  • Produce 10 lakh vehicles annually

  • Help Maruti Suzuki move towards its 40 lakh annual production capacity target

  • Represent a total investment of over ₹35,000 crore (including supplier ecosystem)

  • Generate over 21,000 direct jobs

  • Strengthen India’s position as a global automotive manufacturing hub

Built on Industry 5.0 Principles

Maruti Suzuki has developed the Kharkhoda facility around its “Suzuki Smart Factory” concept, incorporating next-generation manufacturing technologies.

Key technology highlights include:

  • Industry 5.0-enabled manufacturing

  • AI-powered human-aware collaborative robots (Cobots)

  • Advanced digital manufacturing systems

  • Automation focused on improved productivity and worker safety

Sustainability at the Core

The new manufacturing complex has also been designed with a strong focus on environmental sustainability.

Key green initiatives include:

  • 100% renewable electricity for operations

  • Zero Liquid Discharge manufacturing process

  • 100% water recycling

  • Biogas plant planned for commissioning during FY2026-27

  • In-house solar power plant scalable up to 70 MW

  • Dedicated in-plant railway siding to support greener logistics and reduce transportation emissions

A Major Boost for India-Japan Economic Partnership

The inauguration comes during the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum, highlighting the deep-rooted partnership between India and Japan in manufacturing, technology and investment.

Maruti Suzuki, a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan, remains one of the most successful examples of Japanese investment in India. The Kharkhoda project further reinforces India’s ambition to become a global manufacturing and export hub under the government’s “Make in India, Make for the World” vision.
