Hyundai Creta and the Kia sibling Seltos combined sales in April 2021 were 20,549 units and contributed over 60 percent of the Mid SUV segment volumes! The Mid SUV segment collectively recorded volumes of around 33,718 units in April 2021 and the sales fell 15 percent when compared to March 2021.
Hyundai has emerged as the market leader in the SUV category, owing to the success of Creta and Venue. Creta received a full model change last year and the updated model topped the sales charts again overtaking its sibling Seltos. April 2021 was no exception and Creta retained its No.1 SUV slot with dispatches of over 12.4 k units.
Kia's Seltos still has a commendable run in the segment and registered sales of 8,086 units in April 2021. However; the model volumes dropped 23 percent when compared to March 2021.
Mahindra Scorpio ranked third in the segment and the volumes shot up 53 percent in Apr'21 vs Mar'21. The Next-Gen Scorpio is due and the launch is expected this festive season.
Maruti Suzuki's S-Cross sold 2,247 units in April 2021 and note that it is the sole Petrol-only model in the Top 5!
MG Hector recorded one of the steepest sales decline in April 2021 vs March 2021 in the segment. Hector registered sales of 2,147 units in Apr'21 against 4,720 units in Mar'21. The model is getting serious competition from the Harrier+Safari duo. Tata Motors sold 3,226 units of the Safari and Harrier in April 2021, outselling MG Hector and Hector Plus.
There is one more addition to the list - recently added Citroen C5 Aircross. Around 230 units of the C5 Aircross were shipped to its dealers in the first month of the launch!
