Nissan Kicks sales fall to 79 units in May 2019!

Even Terrano sold over 2.1 times than the newly launched sibling Kicks! Both Nissan and its dealers had huge aspirations from this product and were depending heavily on the success to run the show. With another dud from the stable; things should be extremely wary at the Nissan HQ! Mid-SUV segment has seen a lot of promise as the volumes had significantly increased and it also offered handsome margins to both dealers & OEM. Creta’s outright success was an inspiration was all and it made a benchmark in the segment. This has even led the new OEM entrants to seriously look into the segment and introduce their first offerings in this segment (Ex: Seltos, Hector, etc). Will other models in the segment be even able to near Creta’s volumes? Only time shall tell.

Snippets of the segment performance –

  1. The segment volumes dipped -25% YoY even with 2 new models in the kitty (Harrier & Kicks). Even the segment leader Creta numbers dropped below 10k units and posted a degrowth of -18%.

  2. Tata’s Harrier jumped to third position and sold 1,779 units. It clearly outsold the competition XUV500 & Compass. However; we expected Harrier to have fared much better.

  3. Compass volumes fall below 1k units for the first time in past 22 months! Jeep recently unveiled the Trailhawk variant and trying to elevate the buzz for the model. However; with the influx of Harrier and upcoming Hector it is going to be a very difficult ride ahead for Compass.

  4. Kicks & Captur volumes are now almost equal! Looks like Nissan couldn’t learn from Renault’s mistake and has ended up in a similar scenario.
