Auto Punditz Take

August 2026's three-wheeler sales indicate that the segment continues to expand, supported by passenger mobility, commercial last-mile applications and increasing electrification.

The biggest shift, however, is visible within the competitive landscape.

While Bajaj remains comfortably No.1, its declining market share coincides with strong gains for Mahindra, TVS, Piaggio and Atul Auto. Mahindra crossing the 10% market-share threshold is particularly noteworthy, with Mahindra Last Mile Mobility accounting for practically all of the company's three-wheeler volumes.

TVS' nearly 50% YoY growth is another important trend to watch over the coming months.

At the same time, the performance of individual electric three-wheeler manufacturers remains uneven. The sizeable 32% share controlled collectively by smaller OEMs shows that the electric three-wheeler ecosystem remains considerably more fragmented than India's mainstream passenger vehicle or two-wheeler markets.

Overall, the 8.6% increase in industry volumes to more than 1.22 lakh units points towards positive underlying demand going into the festive period.

Data note: FADA states that August 2026 three-wheeler numbers were unavailable for Telangana. The retail data was collated as of September 4, 2026 and covered 1,467 of 1,469 RTOs. “Others” includes OEMs accounting for less than 1% market share individually.
